And a question for those of you who read the whole series, which contains a massive spoiler and will be treated as such:

How many of you read to the end-end of the book to find out what happened with Roland inside the Tower? Did any of you stop when he reached the tower, as King suggested you do in the part before the final chapter?

SPOILER:

I'm an optimist I personally like how the last few lines stated this time he had the horn, as if there was a glimmer of hope that this time could be it for him.

I don't see how why the guy has to be white, though. Just doesn't seem like a big deal.

And don't bullshit me, Desperado. You and I both know you were reading that book with Cutler in your head as Roland.

Because that's how he described the character in the book and it's kinda like typical hollywood bullshit they would switch it up. Probably didn't want to deal with the backlash of two white lead actors, I mean look at how some are going crazy about the oscars.I'ts upsurd.

Have you ever read I am Legend? They butchered the hell outta that with that awful movie. Will Smith and CGI? I left halfway through lol

It ended the only way it could have possibly ended... with indications that he will get it right.
Never for a second did I even consider not reading it.

That I like when a novel stays close to the context of the book? Yes, how bigoted of me.

Or how about you read where I think Ilba would've been great as Neville in I Am Legend over Will friggin Smith(if you ever read that book).

It doesn't have to do with race, but when people dedicated years of their lives to this series and pictures Roland as a Eastwood type of look, it's kinda bullshit Hollywood changes it on you. Sorry not gonna apologize about it. But go on and say anyone who thinks such a thing must be a racist.

And uh no.. Most people are Viggo Mortensen would've been fantastic for this role.

And I'm not the only person pissed. Stephen Kings Facebook many people are disappointed in this announcement.

Desp, this series is King's baby, he's spent over two decades of his life with it. He seems happy with the casting, if it's good enough for him it should be good enough for you.

On a more important note, McConaghey hasn't taken on any trash roles in quite some time and he has really tightened up his filmography. Elba hardly ever accepts garbage, the only think I can think of is that home invasion movie a year or so back. That really bodes well for the strength of the script. So far the movie has two great actors, it's a great start, a better start than I expected 3-6 months ago.

Agree to disagree. Kings a cuck. I don't agree with his politics and a lot of his writing(like pre teen orgies, incest, talking how tight a 12 year old is, etc); but I do like The Stand, Salems Lot(best), Dark Tower series and alot of his shorter stories.

Point being, I'm not gonna agree or like everything he says or thinks. And if he wants to be politically correct about this, then whatever. But it's a slap in the face to a lot of his fans. Don't believe me go on his facebook. People are kinda mad.

Deal with it and let it play out. Shawshank wound up being awesome, and the race was irrelevant.

Besides- one of the greatest all time movie endings that came out and slapped me in the head was "The Mist".
The full circle that the plot took to wind up where it did was fucking brilliant, the slap in the face readers of the story were given when they watch the movie was perhaps one of the all time great twists.

Anyone who read the story and then saw the movie, please tell me you were as overjoyed as I was. I literally jumped up off the couch and cheered!

I loved the haunting and heartbreakingly optimistic the ending of the book was.

But yes, the ending in movie left my jaw on the floor.

Yeah, stopped reading that one. Couldn't even finish. Just really thought it was a little too pedo and creepy, Kings a weird dude.

As much as I love the DK series, the fact he wrote himself into it always weirded me out and I kinda rolled my eyes lol

It was a fantastic arc- the main character was a little more self serving and selfish in the movie than the book... I never really liked him as a person and he was portrayed as "me first" all the way.
I was watching it and fairly unhappy with his character until the end, and you realize the director played it out for a specific purpose.

up until the last few minutes... I hated the movie for making him shallow. Then it became a brilliant choice.

I was expecting a similar ambiguous ending as the book, but the one we got in the movie version floored me. Was still very good, though.

Hey, people in crazy situations do things. I get in some level why did he what he did in the movie.

I just loved how King wrote the lines in the ending the book. Whispering the words to his son before the nightmares starter, a small whisper on the radio that sounded like hope.

Always thought that was beautiful and slightly, even just a small hint, of optimism.

The book ending fit the character in the book quite well.
The movie ending was the perfect ending for that character.

of course this is obvious, telling you nothing you don't know- but the woman in the truck looking down at him in disdain is the woman who was begging for help to get home to her family.. he turned his back on her and let her walk out alone, to what you assume was death.

That was the great set-up. that is where I disliked the portrayal of him. But all was straightened out in the end, her with her kids and him, well, where he was.:lmao:
