draymond has been the man no argument there. but if you have to rely on bogut and lee, with their injury history, that could prove to be what does them in IMO. and the reason their small ball lineup works is because most NBA teams only have 1 or 2 true "bigs" on the roster that can actually play. they pick and choose their spots when to do it...if they try it against the Spurs, Grizz, or Bulls and it wont work IMO
Eh...I see what you're saying, but I'd lean towards it working. I do think the Spurs can play that same type of game and beat them though. Boris Diaw kind of being their Draymond Green. Bulls can sort of match up, but they're not quite as proficient with it imo. Memphis I'm not sure...Zbo ain't guarding Green out to the 3pt line and if they run Green at the 4, they're losing offense or defense somewhere else. Vince Carter isn't gonna stop anyone on GS and Tony Allen can't score. That's another thing to GS's credit...they're well balanced throughout their roster.

I do see the injury thing potentially being a problem. If Bogut did go down, I think they definitely don't get past San Antonio.

Whoever the hell was on the Lakers that year
Alonzo and Mugsy in Charlotte
Reggie Miller and his support group
Phoenix had Barkley/KJ.

And I suppose they were tied for 7th with Phoenix. Weird in this basketball-reference list them as 7th but on the Sonics season page lists them 8th.

Alonzo wasn't in charlotte that year, but grandma ma was(larry Johnson) lakers were old and still had magic on the roster, but did have a young nick the quick van exel that year. pacers had mark Jackson running the offense. just makes you realize how good basketball was back then when the sonics with that loaded roster only came in 7th offensively

having tony allen is crucial still for Memphis, put him on klay Thompson...the 2 games allen missed against the warriors towards the end of the season Thompson went off on the grizz. guys like tony allen, leonard from the spurs, and butler on the bulls is why I think those teams can match up with GS also. have to have a top notch wing defender. you are right about ZBO and draymond green though at the 3 point line, that is an issue for them to figure out. hell maybe put gasol on green since he moves better than ZBO and just let ZBO be ZBO down low in the paint murking fools lol

Don't forget about Glen Rice on that Hornets team. That dude could score the ball. Also had Dell Curry raining 3s. Lakers having Magic doesn't really matter. He came back for just that year after the whole HIV thing, but it was Van Exel and Eddie Jones's team at that point. That was a solid team...nothing special or super bad about them imo.

Ah thats right, was thinking he was traded the next season. But yeah that was the Mourning for Rice trade.

Magic came out of retirement to play for the Lakers, but I can't really say he was that effective.

Totally agree that Tony Allen is crucial for Memphis. But again, just because you lock down Klay does not mean you're stopping Golden State's offense. Everything runs through Curry and his playmaking ability goes beyond drilling crazy 3s. You also have Iggy and Livingston off the bench...two more solid playmakers. Their big men are generally good passers too. All that to say, it's a total team effort with the Warriors, and that's why they're so dang good. To stop them you have to lock down their whole team. I don't see Memphis being able to do that. San Antonio has a puncher's chance. Bulls...I suppose they have a chance too if Rose is playing good defense, but the Noah/Gasol frontcourt isn't a good match up for them.

oh im aware theres more than just klay lol. I pointed him out because he went off on the grizz for some stupid numbers like 40+ points when allen didn't play. I think conley and allen in the backcourt will defend Thompson and curry as well as you can expect any backcourt to do. if the grizz cant defend golden st then nobody can, spurs aren't even as good as Memphis is defensively. if the spurs beat them itll be because of their offensive efficiency IMO, not defense

allen in the game he played against GS, curry and Thompson combined for 41(manageable) and used 41 shots to get 41
in the game he got hurt in and the one he missed, curry/Thompson combined for 66 and 57....big difference

I won't disagree with you there. Allen would be a huge part in Memphis beating Golden State if it were to happen. Allen and Conley are definitely the best two defenders of the teams we're talking about (that are on the same team). FWIW, San Antonio is actually ranked higher than Memphis defensively and we can both agree they are vastly superior offensively so I'm still gonna say San Antonio has the best chance of taking down the Warriors. Not saying Memphis absolutely can't, but I don't see it.

san Antonio prolly does have the better chance against the warriors...I mean they got guys with lots of rings so hard to argue that. i live in Memphis and all my friends are grizz fans...last few years ive been telling em they have no chance in the playoffs(they went to the WCF in 2013 against spurs), had to bust their bubbles.

this year feels different though to me. they have had the same core of players the last few years now, been to the playoffs and won a little bit, but in the end got their hearts broken. since we are talking about trends with offensive and defensive ratings, lets not forget that most teams don't just come together and win titles, they all get their hearts ripped from their chests first. i feel the grizz have put in that time and heartbreak, and adding jeff green to match up against athletic wing players like Iguodala helps a lot

I feel you. And again, ain't saying Memphis has 0 chance...but I still don't think they have all the pieces to have a strong case. If they do beat Golden State, it'd be like the Mavs beating the Heat or that Pistons team beating the Lakers in 04...no one really saw it coming.

To me Memphis lacks the Superstar power.. which is something the Mavs had in Dirk... The Pistons never really had a Superstar, so it'd be more like that.

just depends on what your definition of a star is. i mean that pistons team had all stars all over the roster....ben Wallace, rasheed Wallace, tayshaun, RIP, and mr big shot billups. pretty sure all 5 made it to an all star game(not 100% sure on tayshaun). Memphis has gasol and zbo who have been before...and conley who has been snubbed the last couple years cuz he isn't flashy like the other western PG's. i wont count vince carter cuz he doesn't have much in the tank obviously

You can call them stars...but are they SUPERstars? I suppose it depends on how you define that too, but I wouldn't call anyone on Memphis a superstar. I'm actually not sure I'd call anyone on the Bulls (unless DRose is playing like it's 2011) or the Spurs a superstar either.

And even so, 5 all stars for the Pistons team is more than whatever Memphis has.

true true. i loved that pistons team, which is saying a lot since they are a rival. and i agree the bulls currently have no SUPERstar either. i mean how many SUPERstars are there in the league? 5? 10?

The year they won, only Wallace was an All-Star... the next season the team started adding more and more players to the All-Star team.

Usually about 5-10... And they're usually in the Finals or winning the Finals every year.

Current superstars Id say are LeBron, Westbrook, Harden, Curry, Anthony Davis, Chris Paul

When they're not injured, Durant and Anthony are ones too.

Rose was one, for one season.
