Anyone interested in running or extreme sports check out "The Barkley Marathons" on Netflix.

This film is EXTREMELY controversial. It has been protested against all over the world. It may have even been banned in Australia. A number of movie theaters could not show the film because of backlash. And this was before anyone actually saw it, just entirely based on the trailer. LOL But as in most other cases, such opposition just causes more popularity for the subject being opposed. And that is why I watched it.

This film is created by a feminist woman who documents the men's rights activist movement. That alone is controversial, as many people have likened such a movement to the white nationalist movement. But the outrage stems from the MRA actually causing the feminist filmmaker to question everything she has believed.

The filmmaker did not approach this documentary as pro MRA or anti feminist. In fact, she admitted that her intention for the film was to expose the MRA. In the end, both strive for the very same goal.

Too many people want to paint whatever they oppose as completely "evil" or bad......this documentary is more interesting simply for the fact that the filmmaker seems to be honest with herself and that there are always valid opposing points of view..........the trailer seemed very honest no matter your point of view, you need to understand what people with opposing points of view believe and feel.

Watching this movie is an absolutely surreal experience. It's about a group of people in Baltimore who simulate these real life adventures and battle scenes. And what makes the movie great is that the filmmaker deals with his subjects in absolute sincerity. These are genuine people and he buys in rather than making fun of the situation.

A live action role-playing game (LARP) is a form of role-playing game where the participants physically act out their characters' actions. The players pursue goals within a fictional setting represented by the real world while interacting with each other in character. The outcome of player actions may be mediated by game rules or determined by consensus among players. Event arrangers called gamemasters decide the setting and rules to be used and facilitate play

I think we're alone now

Reading about Warden's wardrobe fascinations has reminded me of a bizarre documentary following a few people who are obsessed with the singer Tiffany.

Weird as hell, but at least the object of their obsession was at one time famous. Unlike Wardens stalking victim, some random, D-list, basic cable, no talent hack.

Emmy winning actress.

http://www.vulture.com/2017/07/vulture-tv-awards-best-actress-tatiana-maslany-orphan-black.html

Also getting raves for her role in the upcoming film 'Stronger'

Maslany's performance resembles Amy Adams' in "The Fighter," who also played an outsider trying to fit in with the dysfunctional Ward family as she falls for boxer "Irish" Micky Wars (Mark Wahlberg). The role garnered Adams a best supporting actress nomination. Maslany is worthy of the same attention.

As you were saying?

So we can add has been, not even nominated this year.

I kid because I love.

Not nominated this year due to season 5 of OB premiering too late to be eligible for a nomination. You can bet your bottom dollar she would have had her 3rd straight best actress nomination and would have defended her crown.

Okay, she is a worthy stalking victim.

This is a truly remarkable breakthrough documentary film. The film was started by one man, Bryan Fogel, right after the Lance Armstrong scandal in 2012. Fogel was a fan of cycling and of Lance Armstrong. For the film, he himself would dope and chart his own changes/progress, and he would try to find out how easy it could be as a cyclist to get away with it. He employed a Russian scientist to facilitate in his doping program. What he got himself into next is absolutely mind blowing, leading up to the revelation of the biggest doping scandal in Olympic history. Fogel sold his film to Netflix for over $5 million, which is unheard of for such an independent documentary.

I recently watched several docs by Adam Curtis. The Century of the Self, The Power of Nightmares: The Rise of the Politics of Fear, The Trap: What Happened to Our Dream of Freedom , All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace, Bitter Lake, and his most recent HyperNormalisation. Not fantastic docs. Very discursive, and he glosses over a lot of points, and makes large assumptions that he does not really back up solidly. But all are interesting food for thought, and do provide a nudge to continue reading and understanding the last 50 years or so of geopolitics and western economies.

They have their annoying parts, and are nowhere near perfect, but worth a watch if you have the time.

Holy shit dude, I started watching some of his films recently. I watched hypernormalisation just the other day.

I've read that The Century of the Self is an absolute must watch, but I need to find a good 4 hour window to actually watch it.

What if you were convicted of murder solely based on someone’s dream? An absolutely enthralling documentary aboot a father trying to prove his son’s innocence. It’s a terrifying look into the flaws of the judicial system.

For anyone who has watched and enjoyed either The Jinx or Making A Murderer, there is a docu series called The Staircase which I believe is better than either of the two mentioned. I believe it is an 8 episode series, but once you start watching it, you will not be able to stop. The film documents the trial of famous american author, Michael Peterson. He is being accused of murdering his wife, and his life is chronicled as the trial is going on.

The director has full access to Peterson's life. You get to see it all. You can see him strategizing with his lawyers, get to go through all the twists and turns of the trial along with him(and believe me, there are some UNBELIEVABLE turns in the case. You even get to witness his home life with his children. His children obviously believe their father, but there is just something off about seeing a guy accused of murdering his wife just having a normal conversation with his kids at home. This docu series will leave you stunned.

Netflix has just rereleased The Staircase with 3 brand new episodes.
