I'm not even sure Jordan would be an option. Asik was a euro-stash and that was part of the reason the Bulls traded for him. Not sure the Bulls take a guy in that round they they'd actually roster immediately.
You're probably right. Depends on what you think GarPax is going for that year. Are they planning for 2010? Are they trying to build around Aldridge immediately? In all likelihood, we're still looking strongly at wing players in this draft. Batum is definitely the best option, but he overlaps with Deng a lot. Brandon Rush is definitely staring us in the face. Nothing really looks all that great and we're likely still looking at 2010 to save us from mediocrity.

and Batum was taken at 25....Might have been a reach there and Batum doesn't fit that Gar/Pax profile Rush does.

Rush definitely looks like a GarPax pick...which sucks. Even Courtney Lee would've been better (drafted at 22, probably also a reach). Hindsight is kind like that though.

The 09 draft is another thing to consider. Do we still take Taj at 26 with Aldridge on the team? Do we realize Kirk's impotence yet and go for one of the many PGs still available around 16 (Lawson, Collison, Holiday, Teague)?

Hell, in 2009 if we whiff on Rush the year before are we sliding back into the lottery?

Brandon Jennings, Gerald Henderson, Terrance Williams, Derozan, Steph Curry?

Another thing I look at is the 2009-10 team.. Do they even make the playoffs? Ben Gordon still leaves over his contract and that team barely made the 8th seed with Rose leading the charge. You're basically trading Rose for Aldridge entering his 4th year... If we assume Brandon Rush is the guy drafted in 08 and he turns out the same, not much help there.

The two guys taken in 2009 likely don't help immediately enough either.

Would make it interesting in 2009 though with the PG's around there. Lawson is a champion, thus making him very appealing to Paxson. But GarPax has shown to be waning from that style at that point (James Johnson and Taj did not have much NCAA Tournament success afterall). There's actually a lot of good options there. But thats of course assuming they end up in a similar playoff spot.

Man how much better could the team have been with Derozan?

Kirk, Derozan, Deng, Aldridge, Noah going into the 2009 season. Maybe that looks appealing enough for one of Wade or Lebron? Perhaps not. That does make getting Rudy *** a lot more appealing. No idea who you get at PG in this scenario if the FO still dumps Kirk somewhere to free up room for 2 max guys. If we had a PG in that draft instead of Derozan that spot is screaming Joe Johnson's name to take us to the promised land.

If this team is lottery bound in 2010 as well.. If they're at #10.. Paul George is hanging around there...

So...this team could have potentially been better with Aldridge by now if we failed enough times between 2006 and 2010 and drafted all the right players? And this is still not even considering 2010 free agency. ARE WE SAYING WE SHOULD'VE KEPT ALDRIDGE?!?

Maybe.

I personally think we end up in the same exact spot regardless. A 2nd round team without a Superstar and still can't beat LeBron.

As I said earlier: Clone does bring up an interesting question, would you rather have the flash of Rose for a few years or the long term stability of Aldridge?

Cap wise we are likely better off though bc we aren't tied into Rose if his production doesn't match that deal ever again

Only in hindsight would I say that we'd be better with Aldridge. And that's assuming Rose never regains consistent All Star form. You don't have to pay Aldridge as much due to the lack of Derrick Rose rule in the cap and if you fail in the right years and draft the right players you can still get a dang good PG to pair with Aldridge. But it also depends on how good you see that team being. Aldridge hasn't been able to get past the second round with Lillard as his PG and solid role players in Batum, Matthews, and Lopez. But that's also in the West.

There's no Twilight Zone episode where you know where things would have gone.

Going back to drafting Curry, I'll go to basketball heaven believing that taking either Chandler or Curry but not both and keeping Elton Brand would have been the better play. It was seen as a huge gamble at the time and blew up so badly that it took several years after they were gone to right the ship. Then by going with Aldridge over Thomas, and as much of a waste as I saw good old Tyrus being, I sure wish we would have gone the other way. I think his poor play probably slowed the development of other players who saw him playing out of control, it meant the Bulls probably drafted and signed differently than if they would have had a more polished Aldridge to build around.

People rag on GaxPax like it's a religion but when you look at what they managed to end up with in return for Curry, they know a lot more than many here think.

Bulls take Brandon Rush and Bulls still suck the next few years

we get Curry in 2009, Paul George in 2010, Klay Thompson in 2011

in 2012 the team takes a step back under a new coach, learning their roles and how to play with each other...Bulls luck out in the lottery and get the #1 pick landing them hometown hero Anthony Davis

Bulls make a big surge the next year and look like the team on the rise only missing once piece: a center....well luck is on Bulls side and they are able to grab Rudy Gobert late

Curry
Klay
George
Davis
Gobert
