What is the justification for raising gas 40 cents in one week? It was $3.59 and $3.69 at the beginning of the week. When I went to work this afternoon it was $3.99 and $4.09. I know they said it will go up because of the damage to the corn crops, but those crops wouldn't even be harvested yet. Plus that should only apply to the stuff that has Ethanol in it. I am tired of the oil companies and their crooked bullshit and even more angry that they are allowed to get away with it.

More likely, the increase is in response to the continued conflict in the Middle East. With these fucking camel blowing assholes keep things assed up in Syria and surrounding countries, you can bet yer last 2 drachmas the price isn't coming down soon. What would be nice is if the government would (and this is said with a great deal of sarcasm) throw a brother a bone and tell the oil companies that they are not allowed to raise the PPG more than 2-3 cents per day, instead of fucking 20 cents over goddamn nite!

It has nothing to do with the Middle East. It has to do with a pipeline in Wisconsin being shut down. Read above.

"The closure of the line, which transports mainly light crude to Chicago-area refineries, had little impact on U.S. oil futures, which dipped 5 cents to $90.08 a barrel in late Sunday trade. But a prolonged closure could support domestic prices in the cash market if regulators order additional work."

There is a pipeline coming from Canada that's damaged in Wisconsin. It will not be operational until EPA approves it has been corrected. It's been all over the news.

I have not seen anything about it, but i have only seen a few minutes of the news since the Olympics have been on. And I have someone close to me that just found out they have cancer so we have been busy helping them with with Dr visits and treatment planning. Plus I live in the middle of corn country and that's all they talk about on the local news.

sorry about your friend. Cancer most certainly sucks.

Prices went up on fear of a shortage directly caused by the complete shut down of OIL straight to the area refineries. They warned it was coming about a week ago.

I guess I hadn't realized we import more from Canada than the Saudis. Ya learn something new every day! I also had not known that the company that owns that pipeline is the same company responsible for the issue here in Michigan.

Even though US imports are at the lowest point since 1999 we still lead the World in OIL imports.

That said Canada supplies twice the oil for us as the middle East, BUT you are correct as conflicts arrise it defintely effects the market price per barrel. This just didn't happen to be one of those situations.

They are saying a couple refineries went down as well not just the pipeline. It's why it is so wide spread so fast in the Midwest.

The pipeline in Wisconsin has been repaired and approved for restarting.

I think I saw on IHN somewhere that their was a train that derailed and 8 cars of alcohol fuel additive exploded... (I think 7 more were stuck but not exploded) so I would imagine 15 train cars of fuel additive not getting to the refinery isn't going to help much either.

Edit: Not really a response to your post, just a comment. I'm not sure where the cars were heading I think the derail was out west somewhere in Montana or something. Big explosion at least.

The one I was thinking of was in California, but the Wis pipeline, and now Montana, whats next?

This happened yesterday.

Chevron’s Richmond refinery is the Bay Area’s largest facility and is capable of processing up to 240,000 barrels of crude oil a day.
