Last sentence of JJ's post:

And the Hawks are possibly going to try to trade for the rights to Toronto F Jay McClement.

Why in the **** would they need to trade for a future UFA? Waste of picks/prospects. Makes no sense.

As for the rest of it, Al Cimaglia reported this same thing on Twitter earlier in the day.

Teams trade late round picks for the right to negotiate early with UFA's all the time... i.e. NYI trading for Boyle this offseason.

Missing out on some of the best Hawks' analysis out there, IMO.

Agreed. Also Martini, if you wouldn't risk some spyware (which I really doubt is an issue on TCI) for $1 mil, that implies that you have more than $1 mil to lose as a result of spyware.... sooo... can I borrow some money?

Starting tomorrow teams will be able to reach out to Free Agents and discuss potential deals before July 1. While I am sure this has happened to some extent in the past, it is completely out in the open now and I'm sure teams will be exploring and figuring out who they have a shot at come July 1. I'm thinking that this will make the draft especially interesting and possibly add to the trade tracker compared to years past. Teams are now going to know what their needs are and if they can get there through free agency or if they need to swing a trade at draft day.

And that's why I think Toews and Kane already have verbal agreements for the contracts that they can't sign til July 1, to give Stan an idea of how much cap space he has to work with.

Duncan Keith gives credit to his "best friend" and D partner Brent Seabrook. "Everybody always bugs us that we're an old married couple."

#Penguins still in mix, Kesler's second choice behind #Hawks. Current offer of Sutter + Pouliot + 1st round pick not enough for #Canucks

That Kesler offer from the Hawks is laughable. Way, way too much for a guy that's already asked his way out of town. No way the Hawks would take that.

Don't know anything about the credibility of this account.
