I do and the funds of $200 million are from cub fan attendees in higher pricing not in ricketts dollars. I can be missing something completely which is why I ask for a link since it seems FT knows I'm wrong.

I think there are already funds in the Ricketts' piggy bank earmarked for certain baseball and business operations that have to be spent regardless of how many fans come to the park. I also don't think the Ricketts family is very transparent about their finances so we don't actually know how much credit/cash/whatever they have available. Naturally some of that money comes in the form of revenue, which you expect fans will pay to some extent anyway, but to say that the Ricketts are relying solely on revenue and don't have alternative sources of funding (their own wealth, private investors, etc) doesn't seem right to me.

As requested here is what I find: Wrigley Field Renovation: Ricketts Family Wants State Aid To Improve Ballpark

Can you provide a link that shows ricketts wants to use their own money as you have stated?

Read the source Tribune link from the story you just posted dip shit.

Ricketts wants to split the half a billion. Ricketts will front 200-250 million. The other 250-300 would come from bonds and amusement taxes.

So it's not actually increasing or creating new taxes. It's reallocating funds from existing tax revenue streams.

Quit being an idiot.

The Cubs are asking the Illinois legislature for $200 million in Wrigley upgrades | HardballTalk

Cubs propose bill to renovate Wrigley | cubs.com: News

Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts is asking the state of Illinois to help finance more than $200 million in renovations at Wrigley Field.

In a letter to season ticket holders and Wrigleyville residents, Ricketts said the Illinois General Assembly will be considering a bill to preserve Wrigley Field. The plan will allow a portion of future city and county amusement taxes, paid entirely by Cubs fans, to be invested directly in the preservation of the ballpark. A bill is being drawn up that will be considered in the veto session that begins next week.

"The plan is fair, simple, and solves the problem," Ricketts said in the letter. "Most importantly, it will not increase taxes paid by Cubs fans or anyone else and will not create any new taxes."

.................

Ricketts said they spent $10 million on upgrades last offseason but the ballpark needs a longterm investment.

I actually saw and heard many workers inside Wrigley Field doing something or other on Saturday. Either that or they were just having fun with power tools

Most likely more small scale renovations like the ones Rickett's mentioned above.

I don't understand the apprehension about using state funding for this. It's already being paid for by Cubs fans..now the funds woul dbe going directly to benefit Cubs fans. ...and it would make the team more profitable and attractive to players to come and play here.

But yeah, let's get all tea party on this shit while ignoring other big markets like the Yankees and Red Sox have used public funding as well.

Cubs fans want to run with the big boys..time to act like them.

I have a general objection to using state funding for non-essential entertainment purposes, but I agree that a smart businessman takes advantage of it wherever possible.

Most of us won't back down from free money either. It's a bit hypocritical, but it's how the world works.

Of course, if the Cubs were doing what the Marlins are basically doing (most if not all of their baseball operations are leeching off the Florida taxpayer), then we have other issues. Having your favorite team investigated by the SEC is never a good thing. As of right now it seems like the Cubs are actually spending a good portion of their own money to improve infrastructure.

Eh Well for one all it's doing is using existing tax revenue anyways that was already going to other "non-essential" entertainment purposes. It's just shuffling the money around really. Plus, if Rickett's doesn't get what he wants in Wrigley how fast until he starts threatening to move the Cubs to the bubs in a new stadium? Then the city and the nighborhood just fucked itself over. Revenue leaving the city and neighborhood and you'd quickly see how "essential" Wrigley is for Chicago's budget..and that neighborhood thriving.

It might actually result in a stalemate as Wrigley Field and that neighborhood are almost symbiotic. I guess if they went to the burbs, you'd at least be able to get more parking options :D

I wonder what other parts of the city the Cubs could potentially develop in. I heard there's a large plot of unused land near the North/Clybourn area. My insane idea involves putting new Wrigley Field on an island next to Navy Pier :D

I think the general plan is as you suggested, which is just a reallocation of existing tax revenues, but there will always be a chance that they tack on a random tax here or there until someone sees the whole legislation and skims off all the pork to ensure that's all it is.

While I can see that....that shouldn't be on Rickett's head..it should be on the officials..and we can hold them accoutnable at the ballot box

No. You are. I said that he relied on his legs for value(I didn't say how much).

Ok.

I never disagreed with that.

:obama:

I said that wasn't entirely true.

You then ask how that isn't true.

Again.

More typical Captain Obvious idiocy.

CO: Soriano relied on his legs for value

Me: That's not entirely true.

CO: How is it not entirely true? Derp derp derp/

Me: Because all of his value wasn't derived from his legs.

Srs?!

Are you dense?

Not shit sherlock.

I knew that from the moment you first posted.

I never disagreed or said otherwise.

Soriano relied on his legs for value. Sure.

But that's not "entirely" true.

Please get a clue before posting further.
