Thornton's ERA+ is 128, Marshall's in 173. Nice try Brett, Marshall is way better.

But then again, you're also the moron who doesn't know what OPS+ is, so I doubt you will understand ERA+ either.

You so badly want to be FT, to be liked, to clazim what other people know/don't know.

In any event, let's not focus on a single year where Matt started as the closer and arguably one of the worst all time which severly skews his stats. For a career Matt is 128 while Marshall is 112 in ERA+

Do you have anything else that would show Matt being worse then Sean?

Now you're including all the time when Marshall was a starter, it's common knowledge that Marshall is only good as a reliever and didn't really emerge until 2009... now you're using too big of a sample size and including Marshall's early career when he was shaky and not even a reliever anyway.

Agreed, factor out closing and starting and Matt's numbers are better, quite a bit better.

1. Closing and set-up are pretty much the same, you go 1 innign trying to keep a lead. he simply sucked at the beginning of this year.
2. No.
3. Career numbers aren't what we should look at, it's about who is better right NOW.
4. You're a homer.

Marshall didn't establish himself as a solid st-up man until 2010, so let's look at 2010 and 2011:
2010: Thornton 161, Marshall 160,
2011: Thornton 128, Marshall 173,

You won't count 2011, and 2010 was so close that there really was no difference. Thornton has been declining since 2009 according to ERA+, Marshall has been getting better every year in the same time-span.

Thornton is going to bounce back, I have no doubts about that. However, Marshall's 173 this year is higher than anything Thornton ever posted, though he did post a 172 in both 2008 and 2009.

Marshall projects to be around the same 170-ish mark this year while Thornton figures to be around the 160-ish mark. That said, do we know for sure that the park figures are accurate? No, so Marshall very well may decline by Great American Ballpark, but it's a pretty safe bet that Marshall is better than Thornton. However, Venters is likely better than both.

Thansk Wrigley, because of your "mouth" a quality discussion got kicked to the flame. If you want to continue this civily start a thread, but to say setup and close is the same ....well, like I said, open a clean thread.

They're in the flame thread. Don't flame too much outside the flame thread. I don't read every post, but if I see it or the post is reported, they'll get moved.

I used the word "moron" one time, don't see how that whole debate was flaming, a vast majority of those were actually high-quality posts... CCS is supposed to be somewhat uncensored anyway, we used to (and still do in the other forums) allow stuff to be said much worse than moron...

I'd prefer not to have to take sides, so feel free to private message the other party and tell them to grow a thicker skin.

Whose the other party who needs a thicker skin? I thought you just moved it? Did brett really report a post for saying moron and then blame me for it getting moved?

Wow Brett... :lmao:

Brett isn't actually a moron about this. Over the course of their careers, Thornton has been better than Marshall. He had a bad year in 2011 so Marshall was definitely better then, but that's in a different context of the argument. They could switch places again in 2012.

Keep it in here and stop fanning the flames out there or I'll start deleting shit.
