Got up a 300 pound back squat yesterday......at a Crossfit gym no less!

That's awesome. Were you forced to workout to some shitty electro dance music and wear girl socks too? Those are cute.

In all seriousness, that's a good squat but what's your body weight? High bar or low bar?

My 1 rep max is around 375 but I'm 40 and weigh around 225ish. I switched to high bar almost exclusively because my lower back couldn't take the low bar stuff.

Locked in right now, gentlemen. Fabulous mix of cardio and weights. Ran six miles right at 8:15 per mile. Looking for a bit more muscle development. Weighed in at 174 (I'm 5' 9.5'') this morning with clothes on.

As many have echoed -- portion control, diet, plenty of water, stretching before and after working out to reduce lactic acid buildup, the right supplements, getting ample sleep are all key. Self-control is also huge. Eating out is fine, there are always ways to make smart choices (water with lemon over soda, salad without dressing, etc.)

Never stretch before heavy lifting. Warm up is fine. Damn 8 min mile is pretty good. I struggle in the 11s lol

ND is horrible.
Supplements, hmm...

Is there much else outside Whey, Creatine, a BCAA and fish oil a good multi/joint support if you need one??

Why no dressing? How about any vinagrette.....seems like EVOO and Vingegar seems healthy enough to me.

When I see squat numbers listed, i never know what to think without a video showing depth.

If you can squat 375 ATg, great. If you can take 375 and descend 18 inches or something then use quads to lock it back out, well, I wouldn't be that impressed. Unfortunately in my experience most guys who talk about squatting over 3 plates are talking about something closer to the latter.

If your schedule is incredibly busy, get a pedometer and try to get in 8000-10000 steps a day. Agree with everything Nvanprooyen said. For weightloss as you get older focus on calorie reduction and reducing portion sizes. Make wise decisions about food choices. Exercise to stay mobile/flexible/maintain strength.

I'm not one to video myself in a gym and I really don't have to validate squat depth to a stranger on the internet. I stop when the back of my thigh right above the knee hits my calf. Below parallel for sure.

Question for those who have been doing a lot of weight training:

How in the hell are you all dressing yourselves?. It seems clothing manufacturers cater to fat asses w/skinny arms in this country. Every shirt, sweater, and sweatshirt fit me too tight in the shoulders, arms, and back.

None of my winter clothes fit anymore, and shopping for such has become a lesson in futility.

http://www.biomechfit.com/2012/02/09/3-squatting-myths-that-refuse-to-die

"Despite the ability of the knee joint to provide an average of 140 degrees of flexion, the idea has been promoted that knee flexion should be limited to 90 degrees during a squat. This myth can be traced back, at least in part, to a single study published in 1961 by Dr. Karl Klein at the University of Texas. Dr. Klein determined that a group of competitive weightlifters displayed greater laxity at the knee joint than a group of non-lifters, and issued a blanket recommendation against squatting below parallel. The study was of very low quality, though, and Dr. Klein was seeking to validate his bias against squatting below parallel. Somehow, this erroneous belief was adopted by the general population and has remained standard dogma ever since, even though it’s been disproven many times over."

I don't stop at that particular spot out of a belief that you should not squat to depth, I stop because that's where it's comfortable for me. I've tried different variations of width, low bar/high bar, depth etc. and right under parallel is good for me and keeps my back from rounding at the bottom.

Curling in the squat rack. Motherfuckers treating it like a social club and tying up equipment when I'm trying to get through my workouts. Trainers doing dumb shit with clueless people. Old fucks in the locker room with no shame.

What are your guys pet peeves at a gym?

Old dudes in the hot tub.
It's like seeing a dick cappuccino.

I don't like crowded places, especially gyms.
I used to work in the building (I work for a university) that housed the workout facilities. You wouldn't believe the amount of naked dudes that just wondered out into the common area.
"This isn't part of the locker room?"
No. Asshole. Thank you for implanting the image of your dong into my memory.

The other thing is the overacting on the grunting. I get it. You're pushing your limits. All for that. Just dial it back a bit. If you're setting a dead lift record, you totally get a pass.
I don't need to hear what it's like for you to remove a Volkswagon bus out of your butthole.

I was about to say no one at my gym is bad with the grunting, but then I remembered have headphones on 100% of the time...so maybe they do

All of this × a million.

I've gotten around this by going to the gym off of peak hours, mostly. I still go every once in a while in the evening and it's still busy until almost 10:30. Usually it's in the middle of the day or really early in the morning so I don't have to deal with too much stupid bullshit

I'm just sick of seeing old dudes peel their dirty briefs off then try and jam the peach tic-tac they call their dick behind some nasty jock strap. And they try and keep their balance on the bench six inches from your face.

Gramps... fuckin' stop it. What the **** are you doing at the gym that requires a fucking jock strap?
