Would you say it's the best of all time? One of the best? Overrated?

In my opinion, it is probably the best film I have seen and it gets better every time you watch it. Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman and Bob Gunton are fabulous in their roles as Andy Dufresne, Red, and Warden Norton respectively. Not a wasted moment on screen. No film has moved me more than Shawshank has.

So much better than most of the crap that comes out today.

One of my favorites as well. Top 10 for me. Not the GOAT though imo.

Great film.

I have no shame in saying if the world was ending w a meteor and had 3 hours to live. I'd grab a Aurelio's pizza, good beer and my favorite movie of all time.. Jerry Maguire. It's perfect.

But as for Shawshank, still love watching that movie. With serious dramas, I finally(dumb me) watched a Raging Bull..

Perhaps greatest film ever. The direction and acting.. Wow

Would have been better if Andy got raped in jail. Would have brought more to the plot. I couldn't find the turning point in the movie. It was just meh.

Ummm...he was.

"I wish I could tell you that Andy fought the good fight, and the Sisters let him be. I wish I could tell you that - but prison is no fairy-tale world. He never said who did it, but we all knew. Things went on like that for awhile - prison life consists of routine, and then more routine. Every so often, Andy would show up with fresh bruises. The Sisters kept at him - sometimes he was able to fight 'em off, sometimes not." -Red (narrating)

Sure, it wasn't American History X style vivid and explicit, but I thought they made it pretty clear.

Kind of weird you want it turned into some softcore *** cinemax movie, but to each their own I guess.

GOAT hands down...my favorite movie of all time. If stranded on a deserted island with a tv and bluray player, if I had one movie to bring with me, Shashank Redemption is without a doubt my first choice.

After Goodfellas Shawshank may be my favorite movie. Just an epic movie.

How Forest Gump beat out Shawshank and Pulp Fiction that year for best picture is beyond me.

The moment where the warden opens the bible is fucking classic.

And some of the quotes are great....

"Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies."

Shawshank just didn't have the publicity like those two

It's pretty obvious when you know the types voting were exactly the types who fill the bill of Omelet's mentality

Great movie. I don't have it anywhere near the same ranking as most of you, but that's because too many other great movies exist. I can watch it once, and never see it again.
