I thought that he did show flashes of progress last year but it wasn't enough. I'll agree with that. His major problem is that he cannot lay off the high cheese as was Alexi's problem and is most of the Cuban hitters problem.

I'm just saying that I would rather replace Flowers and get another starting pitcher than replace Viciedo who they can platoon with someone. I still like that 3A guy Watkins who could hack it at LF or even 3B.
No he can't

When did 3b/lf become 1b/dh?

Tyler Goggles is fine, and getting better. C-Gill is fine, and getting better. Tank is < fine, and not getting better. He's like a German Tiger. Big and scary with a giant gun, but his fuel system has leaks everywhere, causing numerous breakdowns on the field.

Sincerely,
Capt. Uselessanalogy

Love what the Tigers just did. Pretty much replaced Porcello with Simon, who is very similar maybe even better, while adding Cespedes into their rotation. Porcello is younger, but with the Tigers payroll he probably wasn't coming back.

Curious if the White Sox make another move now.

all they did was add a bat to a lineup that has a worn miggy and an aging vmart. the tigers are not division winners if they cant get scherzer back. verlanders arm is showing the miles and sanchez has to be healthy. 2012 was their year and the tigers blew it.

Alfredo looks like the cheap older version of John Danks

Dombrowski said they won't be pursuing Scherzer. (I'll believe it when I see it).

He's better than John Danks lol

And he makes less than 10% of what Danks makes

I didn't know much about jenning but he looks like a solid lefty and that era was very good last year and career era is even better.

No he can't

When did 3b/lf become 1b/dh?

He was originally a 3rd baseman. He's not a huge guy as first basemen go and is an athletic guy. He can hit and doesn't strike out a lot. Yeah he had problems when they called him up but that happens to most guys in their first call-ups.

My bottom line is this. When you have a young guy in the minors who hits almost .300 and hit 30 homeruns, he deserves a solid shot and not simply get cast off as somekind of a scrub. He also is a left handed bat and they could use a power guy who hits left handed. Why not play him in left field and see what happens in spring training?

I do not think Flowers is a major league caliber Catcher. He isn't very good defensively in my eyes and strikes out way too much. Frankly I think Nieto will be a pretty good hitter but defensively he needs to become a lot better receiver. Gillespie is pretty good although generally a team wants a 3B with some pop. If he can play second base, that would be a smart move. I'd love if they could somehow bring Longoria over!

This tells me that another trade for a starting pitcher is in the plan. One thing for sure, Hahn has done a very solid job of upgrading the bull-pen and the front end of the starters. They still need decisions at catcher, left field, and 3rd/2nd. At least one of those will probably come via trade. With Jennings coming over, I'd say dealing Viciedo would have to result in a position player coming back.
