I saw this posted on the O Boards. I am hoping it is just some halfwit taking out his ass, but just in case I am sharpening the spork.

Not late to the party or anything... and "shopping" Seabs is a bit ridiculous considering they're only "listening to offers". But you can decipher that however you please.

BWAAAAHAHAHHAHAHAAAAAHAHAAAA!!!! Where to start????

1. Am I wrong, or is there no bonuses for Kane and Toews and others if they repeat as Champs again? The article says there is, and I don't think there is. Bonuses I thought were only for entry level contracts.

2. Seabs is making 3.5 Mill. Sure, he is due a raise. No way he makes more the Duncs, a 2 time all star, Norris trophy winner. Maybe they sign him to about the same amount, but probably less. If he wants more, let him walk at the end of the season.

3. The article states the hawks are looking for a solid 3rd pairing D man and a gritty forward. So, you would drop a top D man for a 5-6 man? And a gritty forward, probably 3rd or fourth liner? GET FUCKING REAL.

Seabs should get a raise, and maybe a long term contract. % mill is doable, esp with the bonuses coming off the books next season. Asshats.

The Hawks should listen to offers. On everyone. All the time.

Then laugh at the ridiculous morons that belive this shit.

Are you calling me stupid? Because that is what it sounds like. I did not see this mentioned anywhere else before I posted it. I didn't say it was true. I said I hope it's not true. If it was previously posted, I apologize to everyone for the redundancy.

I really hope this bogus. Trading Seabs would wreck the team. He is one of the most important parts of the team. Just a dumb move if they did it.

I would have to see what they get back in exchange but I can see the need to shed some payroll, however Seabs isn't making a huge chunk of change. If they renew him, I say give him between 4-4.5 mil a year for 4 years.

Yes, bonus money on entry level contracts only. Any credibility to this article comes to a screetching halt at paragraph #3.

Edit: Also bonus money can be had on contracts for older players(35+...?).

The one thing that hit me over the head after reading the comments that went along with that piece: It's "NO ONE" - Two Words, not "NOONE" - One word.

Nothing in this article suggests that the Hawks are shopping Seabrook.

The writer is just speculating that if the Hawks are looking to make a major trade, Seabrook, because of his free agency status, would be a likely target of many teams. That much is true.

It would very difficult to get equal value for Seabrook, especially for a team with designs on making the playoffs and defending its Title. Top-tier defenseman are difficult to come by.

Of course Seabs isn't going anywhere, but Stan wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't pick the phone up when it rang.

This... probably nothing else really needs to be said. I'll chime in though.

Stan has to listen... as a GM he needs to understand the market, Seabrook's value for negotiations, and who might be tempted to offer sheet him. There is also a political element to this: GMs need to play nice in the sandbox, as Stan wants them to take his calls too. If Stan picks up the phone, he keeps up good relationships with his peers, he finds out what other players in the league are "in play", and he puts himself in a better position with future negotiations too (be it Seabrook or anyone else).

This has been said ad nauseum, but Seabrook has tremendous & irreplaceable value to this team and while my speculation above may be true, this is simply the case of a blogger putting a title out there to get a bunch of us clicking away on his site...

Bri, don't fret. IMO, he's not going anywhere. He'll get a deserved and reasonable raise, the Hawks have some leverage with him as an RFA, he seems to want to be here, it'll be a win-win and you won't have to worry.

I think Toews, Kane and Keith all signed their extensions around December last year. I do think this....the longer this gets to the trade deadline, the more the rumors will come...

At least he is a RFA, so if they do let him walk - they get compensation. WOuldnt make sense though, to match Hjarlmarsson - and let him go. He's the only physical Dman they have...none in the pipeline either

I think that was more of a McDonut move more than anything. No one heard about any negotiations with those three then all of the sudden they were all signed during a point in the season that began to get stale with marketing gimmicks.

They signed Johnson, brought up Leddy, Savard night, Hull night, etc.. etc.. they'll probably announce Seabrooks extension when nothing else is going on, and there's no one else to pimp out.

Have Seabrook go out and see just how good this team is.

Rumors are constant and this one looks like an "Eklund"...but I think early this season we saw the hawks "without Seabrook."

What I mean is, until about the 2nd week of January, he was not himself. (The Dec 13 game in Colorado being the most glaring of many examples.) The result would support your statement in that "the real Mr. Seabrook" was not here and we have been terrible. Keith has done his part too...but that's another discussion.

On the other hand...if he does not come around and play well for long stretches, it's kind of scary to give him a long deal wondering which way he will go. We need our best players to make good puck decisions and that's most important of our top D pair.

2nd week of January? Was that a typo?

During that stretch he and Keith were both not themselves. I think Keith is still leading the league in GA's. I'm not trying to knock Keith. He and Seabrook are a pair for a reason. Keith can thank Seabrook for some of his Norris without a doubt.

Seabrook has 130 some hits this year. Combine all the other D men together and they still dont hit that number.

We lose many games because of low physicality. Remove Seabrook from that and we are fucked. He's been far more consistent than Duncan this year and Duncan is the one with the long deal. So I guess it's scary to give Duncan that deal wondering when he'll snap out of it.
