Why was the only option promote pace or use an 80 year old? Why not use the 80’year old to help with a president who then finds a gm who then together find a HC?

Instead of having Pace, an actual football guy, get promoted to President, and hire a new GM, we now have George using an 80 year old, out of touch with football, making the choice for them.

There is a very good chance we are worse off now.
I'm not as big of a hater as a lot are when it comes to Pace. But that dude needed to go. Is anyone happy about the dumb shit George had spewing from his mouth today? Only if your name is Ted Phillips. But let's be honest, there's still a sliver of hope that George will land ass backwards into the right GM and Coach. The odds of it are slim, but they're better than Pace bringing the Bears back.

I’m gonna wait and judge the hires he makes…..the press conference really doesn’t mean a whole helluva lot to me.

"Do you want to stay with a 7, or do you want to roll the dice once more and see if you can do better?"

"Hmmm....I know that 7 is not going to win. That 7 is not good enough. I will roll again."

Correct decision.
But understand you can absolutely do worse.

(Thus ends our Ship-Captain-Crew analogy for today.)

Tell that to Lamar Jackson, who would be a wide receiver if Polian drafted him.
I’m not sure if he would have ever been a WR. But I bet he would have been a good one.

I’m thinking the Bears are going to land a Ball So Hard provocative GM/HC duo.

I just won't get over when asked about Ted being involved in the GM and coaching hires, George said he respects Ted's "analytical skills." What the fuck does that have to do with hiring guys to win football games?
That and asked about himself, were best questions....excuses...the board wants me to continue....gtfoh

Except even at 80 Polian knows more about football operations than Pace ever did.
Heres the thing:

They could have kept Pace and forced him to work with Polian to hire a head coach and iron out the cap situation this year.

Pace needed to go because he had plenty of time and the team didn't consistently win. A lot of organizations wouldn't have given him a second chance to hire a new coach, much less draft a second QB but the Bears gave him that chance. They didn't win enough and it doesn't look like that winning is on the horizon next season either. It didn't work out so time to give someone else a shot.

I am just hoping that whoever they choose as the new GM is someone who isn't always looking to trade up at seemingly every opportunity. I'm perfectly fine with it when it makes sense but with as many holes as this team has right now, I'd much prefer to hire someone who is content to trade down to maximize assets.

Whether the Bears find the right coach or GM this go around, I don't know. I do know that Pace was given every opportunity to succeed and frankly it's time for someone else to have a shot to hopefully get the Bears back into the playoffs and into title contention.

Again, that’s not how it works in the Bears organization. Pace would have never been “the guy” to pick a new GM/HC. Like I stated, he would still be working with George, Phillips and an outside consultant. No way George ever gives a single individual all the power. Ok, so Pace was “average”….You want a guy who was “average” to run the show? Hell no.

Then why does everybody blame him for picking Nagy?

I don’t think he should receive all of the blame for hiring Nagy. I’m guessing Pace wasn’t the biggest influence for that hire.

So what, you wanted him promoted to hire the next GM? The guy who sucks at drafting and hiring coaches is now going to pick the gm? GENIUS!

This guy disagrees with you. Is he wrong?

Not sure why you’re quoting me. He’s the one who disagrees with you.

Is he wrong or are you wrong?

Enough with the weeping and gnashing of teeth. Give them a chance. If they royally fuck up, take a break away from them for a while, or wait until George passes away of old age at some point. No need for any fans to be pussies about all this.
I am totally going to give them a chance. Just saying it didn't look good from that conference call yesterday.

Bill Polian said Chad Kelly was a better QB prospect than Patrick Mahomes, and that Lamar Jackson was never going to be an NFL QB.

And he will recommend the guy to mentor our young QB.

Chew on that.
I think age is a factor. People tend to not change their ways especially at his age. Remember the QB's he picked up were Jim Kelly and Peyton Manning, both hall of famers, but both don't really exist in today's NFL.
