It is tough because my guess is that Howard is the "hot read" against the blitz.
That means that Trubisky is taught to sees blitz and immediately throws the ball to Howard.

You throw to the side of the field the blitz is coming from. The Seahawks gambled on that but Trubisky just put that ball out of reach....I know Witten said the ball went right between the defenders hands but I have watched it on replay a few times and it didn't....it was outside his reach. It was a good throw and a good catch.

Yes, Burton was completely unguarded.
But Trubisky had the DE right in his face almost immediately, and Howard was his first read.
