What in God's green Earth did McD do for this team? All he brought here was WGN. It was Rocky who brought McD here for his connections in the Chicago land area to work the media. The Hawks at one time had to buy their own radio time to air the games.



Now, McD is thought of as one of the masterminds that put the Hawks where they are today? My ASS! He did Shit to put the Hawks in the position to run for a cup every year. For pete Sake, it was Peter and Dale who built the team your watching today. The core was already here before Stan and McD took over.

Other have already addressed it, but there is a separation in terms of accomplishments for the business side which McD/Blunk have impacted.



I mean if we want to really split hairs, we can say the "core" was impacted by more than just Dale...the ledger of draft picks that have matured into assets on this team or traded goes beyond just him.



It's not a "mastermind." It's doing the things that weren't done that Rocky wanted/needed to be done to improve the Hawk's business model. I'm confident in saying McD is seeing that through to fruition or else I'm sure Rocky wouldn't axed him if he wasn't meeting the goals he intended. It's that brand that McD/Blunk have probably impacted most. True to the model they seemed to use over at Wrigley, we might not feel it's real impact till we are much older, when the youngsters of today have buying power tomorrow, and make choices over where to spend their entertainment dollars. As Jim noted the convention, the ad dollars, the corporate relationships/sideshow aspect...we might not fully care about these things on a gamenight basis as we probably care more about the on-ice product and whether or not the captain will be healthy enough to play in a game...but these things impact the team.

I don't believe anyone deserves credit for putting games on television.



It was a fucked up policy, perpetuated by fucked up reasoning.



McDicklick deserves credit for building up the Blackhawks brand faster than probably anyone else could.



He's a master of exploitation and circus sideshows.



I didn't need it, but some newer fans like the freak show.

I think Rocky is on record as saying after he took over that those around his dad had all tried, to no avail, to convince Bill to put home games on tv.



What McD/Blunk did is they obviously took pre-existing corporate relationships with WGN and streamlined the process to get those games on that network. Let's not forget WGN was perfectly happy running their CW programming instead of showing even Cub games on free tv. More and more games are being siphoned off to their cable side with Comcast. These free tv games are the "3 hour commercials" that McD so fondly likes to promote that were key to filling Wrigley with let's call it a less than enthusiastic Cub product for many years. If they can build a fanbase and product out of that mess with nothing more than an aging ballpark/quasi-mystique that it's hip to follow the Cubs, think of what they can do with a real team, one that can/should contend for the Cup for years to come.



I agree with Jim here, I can do without it, but I'm not the target, nor probably are a lot of us on here. Many of us were probably following this team long before it, and will long after. It's that future fan they're targeting.
