No way you'd get him for a second. He's worth a mid-first for sure. My suggestion earlier was #9 and #103 for Simmons and #41.

That would the equivalent of about #17.
I think I would make that trade. Then at 41 take the top center. And at 53 the best tackle left, or visa versa.

Supposedly Poles cares about character. If so, this guy is a hard pass.
He was part of a front office staff that brought Kelce and Frank Clark to KC.

No, but it's an indicator. Also in hindsight that was a bad trade for the Titans so they'll be less inclined to go the Trade & draft route vs pay a homegrown star.
They can’t afford to pay him(Simmons), which is why he is supposedly being shipped around

So unless the titans get rid of some other player(s), it doesn’t really matter if they want to keep and pay a homegrown star…they can’t afford his contract demands as their roster currently stands

He’s an elite DT, very rare in the NFL. If Poles wants him, maybe he trades down to pickup extra picks and then offer a 1st and a future pick. He would change the defense instantly.

Would it be cheaper to trade up for Carter or trade for Simmons?

1. Carter, as with most DT’s, will take a couple of years before hitting their peak.
2. He still has red flags
3. No guarantee he pans out
4. Simmons will bec an impact player from day 1 and will improve any defense dramatically

I’d rather see what Tennessee wants for him but Philly & Detroit are interested and they have more immediate draft capital available.

Man I'd get so excited for Simmons but I wouldn't mind a guy like Leonard Williams who wouldn't cost most draft capital.

Is Williams even available?

It's a possibility, his cap hit is way too damn high. I haven't heard anything recently so who knows.

Before last season, Giants general manager Joe Schoen desperately needed salary cap space. So he restructured defensive lineman Leonard Williams’ contract.

This didn’t result in Williams losing any money. But it did inflate his 2023 cap number. And now, Schoen is confronted with the reality of that $32.26 million cap hit.

Williams doesn’t really solve anything tho. Just a run stopper that rarely gets to the QB.

To be fair…bears DO need someone that can stop the run. Right now they ain’t got a line that can do that, just like they didn’t last year

I don’t think the bears are looking to take on a 32 mil contract to do it, though

Well Billings & Walker will help. They are better than any DT or DE from 2022. Just was a crappy DL market—a lot of decent players but no one that would have arguably made a huge difference on the line. Hopefully Poles is looking at Buckner/Simmons if they really are available.

They will help, but let’s be real about what Billings and walker are

They aren’t going to come in and shut down run games. If they were that good, they wouldn’t of been available at the price points the bears got them at

They are rotational depth pieces with fringe starter potential at best.

Now, those two guys you mentioned…in particular Simmons IMO, are guys you can build around on a D line with guys like walker and Billings and make them look better than what they are thanks to Simmons

I’m just glad people here actually realize how good Simmons is. Him playing in Nashville, he hasn’t gotten a lot of the notoriety that some other guys at his position have

Billings will but he’s a part time player. Pass when he’s on the field and run when he’s off of it. Walker is a rotation player that will kick inside on passing downs but again, like you said, another part time guy. Still need a cornerstone player on the line. Get Simmons and draft a DE in this crazy deep draft class at EDGE. That 32nd pick would be real fucking nice to have right now. But yes, Simmons isn’t talked about because he’s in Nashville. He was a beast in college in the fucking SEC. Always a good barometer of a player’s skill on the DL.

I would love it, but have not heard anything about the Lions interest, and it would be a little out of character for Holmes. That is more of an "all in" move, and if things go well, I see moves like this materializing for Detroit next year.

Part of the attraction of the pick rather than the veteran player is that you get a player for four or five years at a lower cost. That won’t be the case giving it up for Simmons. (which is OK for the Bears in their financial situation, but could lower the cost in trade)

Clearly the flipside is that the pick is more of a gamble versus a known quantity, but I don’t think it would cost a first and more. Or at least I would say I would not offer more than that.

Offer a second this year or better yet wait until after the draft and offer a second next year.
