Obviously you've never watched Tavares play

Or how bad Toews was the first 3 rounds of the playoffs that year
Come-on. In any round, Toews has been one of the best 3 or 4 players on the ice. He doesn't so many things but does them so easily you forget how tough they are.

Toews can score a goal any time he wants. He simply chooses not to. That's how classy he is

Toews is the type of player that, while he's not the best in any given aspect of the game, he's up there in all aspects of his game and is more of a complete player than many out there. On this team he's not the offensive powerhouse that Kane is nor is the defensive stalwart that Hossa is, but his skill isn't that far off from either--and that's saying a lot. He does have a lot of good leadership qualities, even though it probably would be better if he stopped yapping at the refs from time-to-time.

That being said, he is like a Sakic or a Yzerman--the type you build a franchise around. He can carry a line or a team and does lead by example.

Sakic had a better release with a wrist shot esp from the slot. toews used to have one but he rarely uses it anymore and never really plays the slot as much as he did in his first couple years..which is fine as he is more dedicated to the boards behind and around the net where he belongs.I think Sakics wrist shot release was under rated myself. Guy could snipe a corner. Sakic also wasnt the most physical player either and shied away from the boards a little more than Toews does. I actually dont like the comparison anymore to be honest. When Toews first came i to the league I was on board with the comparison but i think Toews game has separated himself from Sakics and even Stevie Ys now more and more esp with how the game has changed.

I think its more fair to compare Toews to his current counterparts and Shat is right he is like Bergeron. They are nearly mirror images.

When it comes to offense this season and when 81 points leads the league, I'm not sure what point there is in complaining about Toews getting 65-70 this season. Not sure what people want.

I dont think anyone is complaining. Where are you getting the complaining about toews point totals from. Havent seen a single post in this thread about his point totals. Im sure some fans out there in the real world are bitching but probably the same fans who want Darling to be the starting goalie and how Craw has the worst glove hand in the league based on his rookie year still.

I've bagged on his point production at times....a guy making 10+mil per year, and consistently plays with Hossa, on all the top PP opprtunities - shouldn't have a stretch of 3g in 23gms.

I guess I expect more consistent play out of him, rather than the 12th forward, or 6/7 Dman that some think are the make or break for a team

He's never going to be an offensive first guy. He's not going to be Kane. But he's going to be able to do things Kane will never be able to do and vice versa. If anything, Consistency is basically his middle name. Provided he's healthy you're going to get 70 something points a year, one of the best face off guys in the league and Selk trorphy worthy defense. You can pencil him in for that for probably the next 10 years, at least through the remainder of his contract. If that's not worth 10 million to you, well go find another 1st line franchise cornerstone center. Every player is going to have his slumps, every single player, every single season.

Yah but you touch little children in the no area.

Hossa is well past his prime duuuuuuude. Like saying toews should have higher points because he plays with a dusty old fart. Plus Toews gets dragged down by the shitty lwere they throw at him. Ie Saad and poontang Sharp also 3rd line specialist Steeg.

Toews also has to now pick up the slack of that vermette tard who cant do shit. Handzus was a better second line center/ wing

Which is why he's more a Bergeron/Kopitar type of player - and Not a Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos, Datsyuk...soon to be Tavares in that group as well

Just like every teams 6th/7th Dman isn't going to be Ryan Suter - but you continue to whine and cry about the Hawks players there

No, Hossa isn't what he was....but how much of Toews' godlike defense has to do with getting the best defensive winger to play with? I'm sure that takes a tad bit of pressure off of him

Dont disagree but the difference is berg and kopi have or had second line centers that can relieve some pressure. Less so berg this year because krej was out most of the season and that impacted him and the entire team. Im a firm believer in second line center help. Toews doesnt get it and hasnt for a long time. Sure isnt getting it from vermette right now.

But i also think kpitar and berg are two of the leagues best centers and kopi esp belongs in the same breath as those guys you rank high. **** malkin though you are such a malkin mark. Both toews and kane eat malkin for breakfast wether malkin is playing center or wing. Stamkos cant play a lick of defense either..**** stamkos. Datsyuk will always rule and crosby is crosby and tavaras has always been under rated. I would swap toews with tavaras and not make a single gripe about it to be honest. Until tavaras himself gets his 10 mill plus which he will eventually.

The thing is Rozisval is done, he's spent at the NHL level, way too slow. He shouldn't even be a bottom pairing d-man, even being a 7th is stretching it...and he's still getting nearly 17 fucking minutes a game. That's ridiculous.

Neither one of those guys have Kane playing on the second line - who draws most teams top pairings.

And Stamkos/Malkin don't have to play much defence when putting the puck is on their stick or in the back of the other teams net
