I think to much emphasis is being played saying One guy is a strong safety and the other guy is the free safety. In today's game you want both your safeties to be able to cover, and play the run , along with shooting the gaps and pressuring the quarterback. The game now is , With the spread offense, you better have guys that can cover.
Speed and quickness from your linebackers to your safeties is now the way the game has gone. Who cares what they weigh as long as they can play.

So 10lbs is all that separates James from being a LB by that standard. If Tariq Cohen can find a way to put on 10lbs, and Floyd can put on 15lbs, I think James can do the same.

Jerrell Freeman was also a 5’11 218lb SS too, so maybe a few PED’s are all thats needed. But seriously how about you recognize the league is evolving a bit and having players like James is what more and more teams will be looking for. If he is strong enough (21 Reps) and tackles well (84 TKL) who cares how much he weighs?

Derwin James isn't a linebacker and he shouldn't be so why don't you just stfu and stop playing "i don't know what the **** im talking about" theories. Nothing is evolving because 1 team has a undersized linebacker who is technically a DB according to nfl.com.
Ps no one said shit about teams aren't looking for players like derwin James who is avg in size long arms explosive according to combine but i don't see much in terms of actual CB coverage skills and he didn't do any agility tests. He is shit as a FS too so I like him best at SS unless you believe he is a shit Defensive back and want him to play linebacker which he shouldnt. He is best against large slot WRs TEs RBs.

Running a 4.56 at the combine and suddenly a 4.39 hand-timed at pro day is suspicious. Ive watched Amos for years now and he doesnt appear to be a 4.4 player. He was a 5th round pick for a reason and was benched because of his poor play in previous seasons.

He also isnt the leader on the field that James is and is more low key by nature. Its not easy to compare college performance to pro players but James is the superior athlete, has better intangibles, has the higher ceiling, and we will have to agree to disagree on who’s a better blitzer.

The Bears are paying a ton to CB’s the next couple seasons so no reason to draft and pay a first round CB over a player that can start day one at SS or even as LB in the same position Jerrell Freeman (also a SS in college) played.

Not sure what you've been watching but Amos has legit speed. He's every bit as fast as James on the football field, now that he's playing comfortably and not thinking it show on tape pIain as day. He was down right explosive in his movement last season.
