Not gonna lie.... I've been to a lot of shows. Already have four planned to see next month. Don't know if I can necessarily rate them, but here are five that blew my face off --

Melvins -- Part of their 50 cities in 50 days tour. Fantastic setlist, Trevor Dunn was touring with them and played an upright bass. They're my 'favorite' band, so seeing them on such a monumental tour in their history (30+ years) meant a lot. Plus, I scored some great vinyl from their merch table.

Radiohead -- Incredible setlist, stunning visuals and a great atmosphere. Saw them in St. Louis.

Boris -- A two-night event at the Lincoln in Chicago. First night was their 'classic' setlist and the second night they played their 'drone stuff', including Flood in its entirety. I scored a setlist from the second show and got tons of tour-only merch from their vendor, including a copy of Präparat on vinyl and a copy of "Flood" that was taken from a show in Tokyo straight off the soundboard with no mixing.

De La Soul -- The fuckin' show was free. Part of the Waterfront Wednesday promotion the local NPR affiliate puts on during the spring and summer. So much great energy and positive vibes.

Yo La Tengo -- The show made me cry, plain and simple. Saw them in Omaha, Nebraska. Their encore was two Moby Grape cover (full erection)... then five more songs. Then after the show, I got Ira and Georgia to autograph a copy of "Popular Songs" for me. Ermahgerd, that show <3

you sound like me when i was a young **** with seasoned taste in music. i'm jelly.

Ok this was my favorite but for a wired reason

At the World Music Theatre to see Scorpions and Queensryche. It's storming like nobody's business but we have the gold seats and are covered completely from the elements. A security person comes by to personally tell us that there are funnel clouds being reported all around us and to seek shelter. Where's that gonna be???

Anyways the one guy in our party says that if the crowd panics he's running right for the stage and taking a guitar. We're all looking around to see the funnel clouds. Weirdest sky I've ever seen but no funnels. The guy with us is literally looking like a track star ready to make a break for the stage.

1. Iron Maiden - Air Canada Centre 2008. Really, I could list every Maiden show I've seen, over 20, as number one, but I'll just pick their best I've seen.

2. Metallica - 1989. Justice tour.

3. Disturbed - 2005 in a 1,000 seat theatre before they really took off after releasing 10,000 fists.

4. Buddy Guy - 2013. You might laugh at a guy in his 70's making my list, but he is one of the best pure entertainers I've ever seen.

5. Monsters of Rock - 1988. Had to include my first ever show. 5 bands (Kingdom Come, Dokken, Metallica, Scorpions and Van Halen) over 10 hours.

I'm embarrassed I never saw Maiden. Fucking amazing performers, benchmark for any metal band IMO.

I've always been kind of pissed that I never saw Tool perform. I hear they throw a great concert.

Turns on snob meter. Saw them by accident at jabberwocky in LA in 1992. Had no idea who they were though

You need to understand that I rarely give out thanks and sustained a full-on, chip-toothing boner when looking at this list. Fuckin' Jesus Lizard <3. I remember seeing David Yow at Laurie's Planet of Sound in Chicago and I was ironically wearing a Scratch Acid shirt. He said, "Thanks kid."

Oh, and "Brooklyn and Queens, represent. Represent-sent."

Jesus Lizard apparently reunited again after how much good press they got from their '08-'10 shows. Hopefully they'll come close enough that I can go.

My wife went with me and even though she didn't care for the music she really liked the stage show. It was the Somewhere in Time/Flight 666 tour.

True, but for a subset of the genre, the NWOBHM. IMO Metallica are the gold standard, although I concede they have not aged well.

Guest
Talking Heads, Kingswood Canada's Wonderland (Speaking in Tongues)
Peter Gabriel, Pine Knob (So)
King Crimson, Massey Hall, (Three of a Perfect Pair)
Medeski, Martin, Scofield and Wood , Commodore Ballroom
Charlie Hunter w/ the Coalition of the Willing, Richard's on Richards

Special mention
Herb Ellis, Yardbird Suite, Edmonton- played with a young local guitarist who was absolutely beaming with joy. Watching an old hand like this in a small bar, his liverspotted hands up and down the neck of his guitar, his generosity with younger musicians was remarkable.

All Canada list

Saga
Rush
Max Webster
The Hip
Hugh Fraser
