It sucks to think about losing Forte, but if the thought is he won't be back it's better to get something for him than just let him walk.

NDs RB CJ Prosise is a very similar player to Forte and I would love to snag him in the draft. He's 6'1 220 with solid hands (converted WR). His top end speed is actually probably better than Forte's as well.

Langford and Prosise could be a very solid combo next season.

From the little that I really watch college football other than Stanford and Arkansas, I'd say that there appear to quite a few really good RBs in college football this year.

He is from ND. No thanks. Only good NFL player to come out of ND was Joe Montana.

maybe i'm mistaken but if we let forte walk and not sign a FA of equal value wouldn't we get a compensatory 3rd round pick for him?

If the Colts lose again they might get desperate. Might be able to hard sell them into a 3rd. Maybe a 2nd. That'd be a team to watch.

Prosise might very well come back for his SR season, butif he continues like this he's likely headed to the pro's. Will be interesting to watch.

I was just trying to think of a guy that compares favorably to Forte, and being a ND fan I've seen a lot of Prosise. The two best RBs in CFB Fournette and Chubb are both only true sophomores.

I don't think he comes back and here's why. He's technically a RS JR, so next year would be a 5th year for him. RBs have a short time frame in the NFL in general so many are starting to leave as true JRs anyways. He should have a degree in hand from ND after this school year.

Justin Tuck had a pretty good career, Floyd and Smith recently are pretty good players... Much better recruiting since Kelly came around but yeah there haven't been a ton. Not sure what Tuitt has done since coming out

Actually Golden Tate is a nice player too even though he hasn't done much this year yet

There is a lot that goes into the compensatory pick formula, even if we don't sign a big free agent this team will be filling many needs with free agents due to the many holes on the roster and the lack of guys we have on our roster to extend with the large amount of cap space we will have this offseason. I expect a handful of mid tier, free agents getting signed by us. Even if the comp pick fairies leave us a comp pick for Forte that pick would not come until the 2017 draft.

The teams benefiting from the comp picks are the teams who draft and develop well for years and don't need to spend their cap space on free agents from other squads, like Green Bay and Cincinnati. It will take a couple of great drafts before we hopefully can become self sustained.
