You think? How old is your house airtime? I bet that tree is around 40 years old, maybe 50. If the house was built in the 70s, then the tree came after the house.

I would say late 60's early 70's for the one in the pic. The one on the other side was built in the 50's, so it might have once belonged to that lot.
That one was an old converted summer cabin.

it dont matter wut i think.. it be a safety hazard now.. no worries though.. where we lived down the mountains.. we cut down the tallest tree in that entire region for the same reason -- had to flex me murican spirit.. we didnt plant the house nor the tree.. plus oz so fucked we had to tell a story about termites to get approval for such an act.. you know how them green peeps can get..

My parents have 3 trees in their yard larger then that one. All planted in 1970 when their house was built. Try again.

I'm not an arborist but if that was a hardwood tree that was that size, the one in question isn't, it would definitely be older than 40-50.
I'm fairly sure soft wood trees grow more quickly, rings spread further apart, hence softer wood.
If I'm wrong and someone knows/understands better than I do please correct me.

Angiosperm vs gymnosperm. Most hardwood trees are more dense than softwood trees. Not all, but most. It's due to the structure, growth habit, and xylans vs glucomannans.

Redwoods are one of the fastest growing trees on the planet and they don't grow that fast. Of course they are fastest growing upward, at 2-3 feet a year in ideal conditions.
