Tyrion (Dinklage) is the best, he needs to win awards, but at the end of the day of all the main charecters they've featured multiple times, there isn't one who doesn't nail the performance. Whoever cast the show should be bathed in gold, just not Viserys style. Snow hasn't got good yet, but I think Rob's performance last night was pretty spot on with his wolf talking to Jaimie, And his mother gives the story exactly what it needs. Joffrey and Cersei are perfect, and Jamie and Tywin really round out that family about right. Renley is excellent, Stanis is ok, I'm hoping he'll get better. I like Davos already, maybe that's because I like him in the books. Not thrilled about the Red Queen but she' isn't bad. Can't wait to see Mance Raider in the next episode. Mormont and Crestor were excellent. Hell even Bran has depth already. Dany is what she is, and she's playing the part well but the charecter has only had the one real great part so far. Shoudl get better. The best news is that they are all even better knowing that they could all be dead or go missing or something at any moment.

At the end of the day it all comes down to casting as I said, but the screenplay transition from the excellent writing is masterful. One of the best shows on TV right now.

There are so many great TV shows on cable now. I mean the OTA networks ought to be worried. They simply cannot compete with the storytelling of the cable shows. Justified, Southland (fucking smooth NBC, that's why you are last), Game of Thrones, Spartacus, True Blood, The Borgias, etc

Yeah but OTA can compete where they can't, price and distribution.

^^^Agreed. Right now, with the way cable is pricing itself, there's really no way I can justfiy an additional $30 for channels I don't watch, an additional $40 to get NBC Sports and more channels I won't watch, or an additional $50 for NBC Sports, NHLN, and even more chennels I won't watch.

Besdies, I don't need to see TV shows I do watch the night it comes out. If it's OTA, I record it. If it's anything else I can get it online. If it's a hockey game, I get it through GCL or go to a BWW if it's a NBCSports or a NHLN game.

Plus, you always have the "pirate" feeds.

I'm watching more and more on-line. I'm getting ready to pull the plug on my HD cable in favor of on-line plus basic cable for local channels. The HD stuff is no great loss. Most of the things I want to watch in HD are easily available on-line.

The only problem I see with that... is that you have to go to a BWW.

What issues do you have with BWW?

Food is terrible (IMO), overpriced (from what I remember), crowded... I dunno - maybe I have the luxury of other local pubs/bars to go to that BWW doesn't have to be an option?

I would think you specifically would if you're in the Chicago area. I, unfortunately have to be more picky and choosy unless it is a Timbers or Blazers (yuk!) game.

I think BWW is a bit overpriced but the wings aren't too bad--especially the Mango Habanero or Blazin'.

Back on topic though, yeah, if you have the option of a local bar that plays your favorite team it does weaken the argument that you need cable.

Hooray! I'm so glad someone else is watching Mad Men. It's my favourite show.

No shame in watching tv. So much of it is so good right now.

I still haven't seen it but I remember when TCD had us vote for you to have a walk on role. I suppose it's nice to see Vincent Kartheiser have a chance to act again after his stint as Connor on Angel. He did a good job with a character that was basically created to be despised by fans of the show.

He serves pretty much the same purpose on Mad Men, the character you love to hate. I've never seen Angel, so I don't know what he was like there.

Also, I know no one else watches, but Mad Men was so amazing tonight and there was a fist fight and it made me sooooo happy and no other show is as well written. The Killing comes on right after and I watch for two seconds and remember what a giant piece of shit it is, especially in comparison to genius like Mad Men. Then I change the channel and feel so much better.

we are really getting into this season of the US being human. Makes me want to get the previous seasons. And watch the British version. Can anyone confirm if the story is different in the two versions and only the premise is the same?

So watched Game of Thrones last night (okay most of it, have 15 minutes left.) think I'm going to re-watch it. Anyway. This show is quickly setting the bar on how medieval fantasy tv is supposed to be done. The dwarf is simply the best character in the show. Peter Dinklage is epic. I just read an article about game of thrones (spoiler alert) and they mention Joffrey as an excellent villain. I couldn't agree more, I hate that little bastard. Another great performance. Cersei is another great character, I respect and despise her all at the same time. I love this damn show. Also I enjoyed reading the book that season 1 was based off of and I recommend doing so for any Game of Thrones fans that haven't. For me the book (since I read it afterwards) acted as an extended version so instead of feeling like the show sucked in comparison to the book.

Dinklage might be playing the best character on television.

I never thought the series started slow at all. Loved it from the 1st show on. You have to respect this show for so many reasons. Loaded with surprises and great acting.

Slow isn't a bad thing in Game of Thrones sense. Just doesn't have the action and drama of the 2nd half of the season. It was laying groundwork.

Also NATALIE DORMER!!!!!! The Queen that's married to the *** King is Natalie. I have the hots for her, ever since she played Anne Bolynne in Tudors.

The only way traditional cable is going to survive, is if they go to an ala-carte format and allow you to order only the channels you want. I seriously would just get the movie channels, history international (I dont even want regular history anymore cuz its just reality show bullshit) and any channel the hawks play on. I have cable right now (but im not paying for it) and I dont even watch it Ive gotten used to not having it, I still just watch netflix and Hulu and stream pirate feeds of anything I dont have access to, and use vudu or amazon to rent new releases. and one of the most annoying things you can do is just get internet from a cable company, they do everything in their power to try and get you to order TV too. I wouldnt be surprised to see cable companies trying to thwart streaming on their internet service, which is then only going to lose them internet customers. I still use comcast for internet because frankly it is superior to any independent providers, but will switch the day they try and **** with shit since they are essentially providing me the means to not have to buy cable tv from them.
