I've taken screenwriting for tv classes, but never actually written for television. Hopefully one day. I think a lot of that stuff is coming from network sitcoms with laugh tracks or procedurals. But I agree. There is a lot of that that goes on in the world of tv writing. The bigger the network, the harder it is to create a quality show without all that stuff, like product placement. I think this is why actually good tv is so revered now, because the bad shows are so obvious now. They are running on these product-based formulas and not challenging the audience at all, but the networks don't care because more people watch that crap.

Name some current shows that you think are crap (beside reality TV we all know that is a steaming pile of shit)

I couldn't believe it! Feels like it came out of left field, but if you look at it, we were given a sign. And it did make me sad as well...

With that said, Jax is fucking primed for action now - gonna be REALLY interesting to see where this goes. Also, SPOILER ALERT we got confirmation that the home invasions are the work of some other, "to be named" group that has a grudge with the club.
You didn't see who was doing it? They showed them dump the house safe. I don't' want to ruin it if you didn't connect them though. They drew a very clear visual line with one of them though.

You better hurry the **** up with the marathon, I'd be almost willing to say last night was by far my favorite episode. Well... maybe the last 2 combined.

Damn it. It feels so far away!!! I'm only under half way to season 5 and I have no idea where the writers can keep going. It's madness as is right now. It somewhat worries me because I don't want a situation where the writing goes too over the top. As much as I love the show there is so much going on in one season that it can become a little "come on"!!!! How much shit can you pile up in such a short time before it becomes too unbelievable. Part of me wants to see just how much they can pile on though lol.

great show. great writing and better than that the acting is actually incredibly good for something that goes over the top sometimes. there isn't a single character I don't like. And I love shows were its antagonists vs antagonists.

I also want to see more Mayans involvement in the show. I'm a sucker for biker gang vs biker gang stuff. Season 2 hasn't given me enough Mayans...but I like the slow build with that also. Obviously at some point a full on bikers war is going to break out.

Now that you mention it, I do remember that - I just don't remember who it was. PM me.

I like to think I have a pretty keen eye/ear for over-the-top writing and as far as SOA getting stale, I can confidently say it hasn't happened yet. I read an article the other day and Kurt Sutter has it planned out to 7 Seasons (although it sounds like FX would like an 8th).

And seriously, my girlfriend and I were able to get through all 4 seasons pretty quickly.

I have to echo this, I'm a stickler for shows that go over the top and loss so much believability that it heavily impacts the quality of the show and I don't think SOA is there yet, they came close, but they always seem to serve up enough sacrifice of people going to jail, dying, family disruptions ect... enough to balance the over the top with the consequences of their actions. Keeps it grounded and real. Although you don't think it could ever happen in real life, you get a strange feeling it's not a stretch sometimes.

Im moving along. Season 2 ended nicely. Im going to miss the always craziness of Henry Rollins onscreen but I liked how they got to him. And boy oh boy time to see how deep, pissed off and fucked up Jax can get now. And Gemma going on the lamb? Did not see that one coming. Was not a big fan of what happened to Kip!!! I have a good idea of where Gemma will end up in season 3 though. Time to see if it comes true.

The one great thing I really like about this show is how the viewer gets caught right up into the character tensions within the plots. Not sure if any show has ever really made me as tense as this one. Relieved when the tensions come to a close but low and behold THERE IS ALWAYS MORE!!! Its a tough show on my nerves. That tension btw Jax and Clay was fucking killing me!!! As was the tension with Tig and all that shit with Opie and his wife. You know what I am talking about.

Don't know if it was posted yet but this SOA actor won't be on future seasons. Don't know how big a part he had, but he is taking his dirt nap, apparently deservedly so.

Yeah, read that yesterday. I was almost expecting this in the bizarre death and injury thread.

I saw it too... almost sounds like his character on SOA was a better person than he actually was in real life.

I saw a gawker headline at the bottom of another sight that he was an ex-boyfriend of Katie Perry... It's ok though she's mourning his loss.

Ok. Here are some shows that I think are crap, some of which are considered great: The Killing, The Newsroom, The Walking Dead, I think Modern Family has really fallen behind in quality and relies on stereotypes and tropes that aren't funny. Boardwalk Empire can be sooooo boring. I was never a Law and Order fan, and though I've seen episodes I'm not into shows like NCIS or Criminal Minds.

I love many reality tv shows and think a lot of them are better than scripted shows. I'd rather watch Here Comes Honey Boo Boo over Two and a Half Men (terrible writing, not funny and pure trash, offensive, etc.) any day of the week. To make a good reality tv show takes skill, as does it take to create 'scripted' television. Storage Wars and Project Runway over Once Upon a Time or Revolution or Damages (gave up on that after season 2).

Then again, I am a critical *****.

And then there are shows that not enough people watch, like Treme, that are so fantastic. I love Treme, but it has really low viewership. Lame!

Again, I love SOA. And the most recent episode was so upsetting that I could barely get through it. I can't say it was my favourite because I could barely watch it!

I don't like season 4 of SOA as much as the other seasons so far. Perhaps because I am watching them too fast and not getting the year breather btw seasons? I was hoping there would be a few episodes of the guys in prison in season 4. Didn't like how episode 1 jumped right to them being released. Feels like there was too big of a gap in the time line. I understand why they had to skip to them being released but a few episodes of them in prison would have been interesting. Not a big fan of the love letter stuff either. I won't lie Im not a big fan of any of the letters or Johns book. I see why it had to be done as it's the backbone of the entire theme but I have never been a fan of secret writings in story lines or voice overs. I can let it go though in SOA because everything else is so great.

I also don't like the race card being used in season 4 because of the black sheriff and the play with Juice. Too easy and too overdone. I actually don't like the Sheriff character at all...not interesting. However I love Danny Trejo in anything he does so the character of Romeo rules. I also love the US Attorney Linc. Weird character. Ray McKinnon always has a strange screen presence that I like.

Just looking for more from season 4 now. It hasn't hit me like the other 3 seasons yet....but I do see things picking up now that I am on episode 6.

It's coming.....

by the way...

DEXTER!!!!!

and Homeland started back up last night. Really really love Dexter, but I'm afraid this season is going to suck. And homeland ended so well I hope it continues to be that good.

Copper is pretty good on BBC America. It started out real fast and lulled a bit, but you can see it picking back up again.

More cable shows on the do not like list than I expected.

Shows I like

Charlie Sheen era Two and a Half Men was hilarious.

The Big Bang Theory - Funny as can be and being a nerd I relate to the characters. Well except for having PhDs

The Newsroom - I dont know why I love this show. some of the plot lines are so god damn predictable. Sometimes the characters are over the top but I love the show

Game of Thrones - Did I mention I was a nerd? and this is super high quality fantasy TV

Two Broke Girls - Kat Dennings's character is funny and well her rack is amazing.

I don't like reality TV. Even the couple shows I liked I stopped watching.

I watched Boardwalk Empire and havent even bothered to watch this season. The show does move at a snails pace and does get boring doesn't help my interest that they killed off my favorite character.

I want to like Modern Family most of the show is hilarious but the husband to Julie Bowden's character is just so unfunny that that single character ruins the entire show for me.
