I would love to get a #2 Center, By doing that we would move sharp to the wing and he can focus more on his offensive game, where at center you have to think two way play.

Heres an update on some teams.

Montreal is looking to aqquire players.
They have two needs and it will be interesting to see which ends up being the priority. With Josh Gorges and Andrei Markov out, they certainly need another defenceman, especially with Hal Gill and Roman Hamrlik slated to go to unrestricted free agency this summer. But they could also use a top-six forward to punch up the offence, perhaps an improvement on Andrei Kostitsyn.

Ottawa is lookng to blow up their roster.
In Ottawa, Daniel Alfredsson and Erik Karlsson are the only untouchables.

At this time, Jason Spezza's contract is unmovable and the same is probably true of Sergei Gonchar's and Filip Kuba's. Teams calling on any others, including Mike Fisher and Chris Neil, are being told, make us an offer.

Ottawa isn't eager to unload Fisher or Neil, but for the right price it could happen. The Senators most coveted asset is soon to be unrestricted free agent defenceman Chris Phillips, who could perhaps fetch a second-round pick. Other impending free agents Alexei Kovalev and Jarko Ruuttu won't yield much but there's been some calls on them and they could move.

And with Toronto
Toronto, meanwhile, would like to parlay a defenceman into a potential top-six or top-nine forward. Most of the calls the Leafs get are on Francois Beauchemin and while the Leafs will move the veteran, they have to get a substantial return because of the minutes he logs.

The last thing Tomas Kaberle wants is yet another dog-and-pony show on will he or won't he waive his no-trade clause, but sometime between now and the deadline, Kaberle will let Burke know whether he'll consider a move or just play it out to unrestricted free agency.

I would be wary of trade rumours involving Mikhail Grabovski, Nikolai Kulemin and Clarke MacArthur. There are no untouchables up front in Toronto, but those guys are young and affordable and they're producing, qualities that are not in abundant supply in the Leaf lineup.

Yes, defense. They'll posture to get a C, but don't have the wherewithal to obtain one.

Chris Higgins or Stephen Weiss wouldn't be bad options as a #2 Center

Higgins sucks. 17 points coming into tonight..pass.
Points dont mean everything in hockey, and the sooner you realize that is the sooner you'll get more respect by others around here. Youave to realize there is a thing called "Salary Cap" and right now he is one of the best options who can come in and bring us depth at center, he is also versatile enough to play he wing which can aslo be an advantage for faceoffs if a center gets tossed from the circle.

Also you say he sucks because he has 17 points, did you look at his games played, he only has 36. 17 points in 36 games isn't to shabby, and those 17 points are better than almost 1/3 of our roster. You also have to take into consideration that he is playing on a Florida Panthers squad, who aren't offensive powerhouses.

Last 3 seasons, Higgins has a whopping 16 goals.

Give me Weiss but can we even afford him?

Hrm... Brian McCabe a pending UFA ... granted he is more of an offensive minded defenseman than I think that the team needs- but that is kind of interesting...

Maybe Florida makes sense as a trading partner.

Also I wouldn't mind a guy like Robin Regehr, if Calgary would trade with a conference rival... suppose it boils down if either team figures they are not going to make the playoffs.

__

As for Centreicemen I wouldn't mind Madden back - granted at that point you would be talking about making Bolland the 2nd line C ... and having Madden as either the 3rd or 4th line C - with Pisani filling the other slot. With that move, you could stick Sharpie back on wing.

Again you are looking at just one aspect. The guy can win face-offs, why not throw a guy out there who can take a face-off and win it back in a key situation to Sharp or Keith at the point. He also has some shorthanded points, which means he gets PK time, and looks lke he takes advantage of it. He also a + player on a Florida team, also doesn't take very many penalties. He avereages 18-21 minutes a game, thats Sharp & Toews minutes so he is defintey conditioned for top line minutes, which if he is getting in Florida he cant be that bad. He is also 27 and may be close to hitting his prime, could be a low risk high reward rental player if anything.

I would love McCabe, he is pretty reliable on D, cap probably would probably be a block on him though

Update on Tomas Kaberle
Maple Leafs defenseman Tomas Kaberle is once again willing to accept a deal out of Toronto, telling reporters on Tuesday that he's open to waiving his no-trade clause.

"If something comes up, we can talk," he told the Toronto Sun. "That's what my agent is for. I just worry about the hockey games.

"I haven't heard anything about that yet. Every year is the same, there's going to be lots of talk, especially toward the end (of the deadline)."

Last season, Kaberle submitted a list of 15 teams he was willing to go to. It's believed he will do the same this season, if he hasn't already.

Great list Icehog... adds perspective in one stop.

Some interesting names on that list.

Well no actually although I wrote down about not minding Francois Beauchemin - no.. I don't think that I would either... would stick with Regehr, Hamrlik, maybe Kaberle -and I think Ice is right McCabe looks a little too right maybe -although he is a UFA at the end of the season -and I wouldn't mind making a move that could allow resigning Seabrook, and having a shot at signing McCabe in the offseason.

I didn't realize Weiss' cap hit was that low- so that looks good too.

If the Wild fall out of the playoff race, I would have no objection to Andrew Brunette either
