I've thought it to have made sense for several years to get rid of Boozer just simply addition by subtraction in allowing Taj to play more.

Would Booz's salary have impacted the luxury tax thresh?
And have some scrub backup PF come off the bench?

It really only makes sense this season because they wouldn't have to pay him something like 40 million to not play for us and instead play for some other team on a cheaper deal as they would have like 2 years ago. We would still have been over the salary cap so at best we get an MLE level player. That doesn't really make us any better. I like Taj a lot, but people tend to forget that Boozer's actually a pretty good offensive player and an overall productive member of this team. Large salaries blind people sometimes. If Taj was starting the past 2 years people would be demanding the FO to trade him for some silly reason like not scoring more than 12 points per game.

This season though, if you get the chance to bring in a guy like Melo, Kevin Love, or even Mirotic arguably, it makes sense because the team gets better.
