my Dad was an AT&T technician for 30 some odd years and he was one of those lazy fucks for the last 4 years.

I am an ex AT&T guy still in telecommunications for the past 38 years and I am lazy as ****. I work from home now. I get up at 7:58,hungover, stumble to my office, login to work, get a cup of coffee, look at my 127 unanswered emails, ignore them all, log onto CCS to check things out, surf some porn, make some coffee, clean the garage, then look at another 100 emails and ignore them as well. I have 2 years to retirement and really don't give a ****.

He spent half his time those last 4 years sitting around assigned to some building where they only needed him like once a month and the other half the day he spent at the bar or out to breakfast lol. He was downtown the whole time.

I've worked with plenty of useless turds.
The most useless is a dude that works AV in my department. He's a burnout in his mid 50s, never does anything, fucks shit up, and management lets him do whatever he wants, because either they think he's going to retire soon or he may go insane and shoot all of us in the department. I've even heard him talk funny in those regards. I usually give him a Milky Way or Snickers, so when he does come in with a shotgun, he'll let me live.

Yeah...I think everyone has to deal with useless co-workers.

I incompetant co-workers I can deal with, and tolerate, those who in general suck at what we do and end up calling me for help that at least have some desire to learn. You may have to handhold them but either they eventually get it and no longer bug you or you know it's beyond their expertise and simply don't give them that work to do.

The ones I can't are the ones that somehow found their way into our group and simply don't want to get it. Either the competant ones have to re-do everything they've FUBAR'ed. What's worse is when there's a layoff and the incompetant ones are retained and the competenat ones are let-go or transferred to a department that can't or worn't utilize their skills.

I am starting to think alot more people are willfully ignorant and shitty at their job rather than truly being incompetent.

At least in corporate jobs you can be shitty and bullshit your way through 1-2 years minimum where they won't fire you but you don't actually provide anything useful and just lean on other competent workers.

IMO, it's fine to dial back the work ethic if/when one has accomplished certain goals, or if one has worked his/her ass off for a couple decades or more and then wants to slow it down from a sprint to a slow-jog.

OTOH, the majority of born-lazy fucks bounce around from one position to another, usually blaming the prior employer and/or invoking the always-popular "my boss was an asshole". Those lazy turds will keep bouncing until they find a place of employment that overlooks their slothy production.

Hey our dads both worked for AT&T. Cool. Mine was an IT Project Manager.

Mine was far from lazy, his last 4 years were pretty much hell as far as the stress went. Especially the last 2 years.
