It does not really matter. I only care on how he does on the field, screw the rankings.

If he has a good year, you will see him at 3B and Ramirez somewhere else come 2012.

Nope, you definitely won't. Why would you move a proven 3rd baseman for a guy out of the minors unless it was like Theriot getting moved for Castro. You can't move Ramirez to SS and he isn't going to want to play 2nd base and with his defense there's no way I want him at first having to dig for bad throws.

Ok waldo.

For once Waldo is right. If you're ranked the #1 prospect but you don't do shit in the majors, who gives a damn about your ranking.

Who said anything about moving Ramirez to SS? He's a free agent after the season.

Way too early to give up on the kid. Wasn't Ryan Howard a massive bust with a high strikeout total in his twenties until like 24/25 when he had a big year?

Worst case, Cubs trade him for a very good player to a seller. Teams would give him a look to try to work on his development with their system/coaching.

Sorry I misread your comment. You're still wrong though. Why would you give up a proven 3B for a kid who hasn't proved shit in MLB?

Because that's how baseball business works sometime. If Vitters has a huge 2011, he will likely be on the roster on Opening Day 2012, whether as a starter or bench player. It also saves the Cubs $14.6 Million more that they can put towards Pujols or Fielder.

Even A-Ram seems to think this is probably his last season in Chicago based on his comments at the Cubs Convention.

Doubtful we see Vitters up on opening day as the starter in 2012. He's still pretty young and his history suggests it takes him a good amount of time to adjust at each level. He's not shown to be a guy you can just throw in to a higher level and see him produce(like Castro). Depending on his production at AA this year(where I assume he will end up after ST) he might be a September call up and would most likely make the team coming out of ST in 2012 but I don't think he will be the full time 3rd baseman until sometime in the middle of the 2012 season.

But that also depends on the Cubs financial situation next off-season and if they decide to keep Ramirez's salary on the books or not. Or if A-Ram doesn't pick up his side of the mutual option.

I guess but if the Cubs simply throw an unprepared Vitters right into action simply because of finances that's not the best move for the team or Vitters. I don't think there is anyway A-Ram doesn't pick up his side of the option. He's not going to find a bigger contract on the open market unless he goes off this season and hit .300 with 35-40 HR's...which I don't see happening as he hasn't done it since 2006.

No, it definitely isn't. I agree with you.

But if he gets that September call-up and actually performs decently, they may make that mistake.
