EDIT.

Just looked it up. Player option this year. Mutual option in 2012 but the Cubs can buy him out for around $2 million in 2012.

Chicago Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez informed the team on Wednesday that he has declined the option in his contract to become a free agent and will return to the Cubs in 2011.

Ramirez, who will be playing in the final year of a five-year, $75 million contract, had to inform the Cubs within five days of the end of the World Series whether he would become a free agent.

If Ramirez, 32, would have accepted the option to become a free agent, it would have voided his $14.6 million contract for 2011. The Cubs hold an option on Ramirez in 2012 for $15 million. The Cubs must pay Ramirez a $2 million buyout if they do not pick up that option.

Plagued by a slow start and injuries, Ramirez batted .241 with 25 home runs and 83 RBIs last season.

Looking at it. Vitters doesn't turn 22 until August of this season. Even if he isn't the Cubs full time 3rd baseman until mid 2012 or the start of 2013 he'd be starting his full time MLB career at the age of 23(2012) or the season during which he will turn 24(2013). That's pretty typical.

It's not as if the Cubs are hoping for some rapid development out of a 24 or 25 year old this season.

I think people have heard so much about Vitters for so many years that they assume he is older than he actually is.

*edited to corret Vitters age*

Ya, it's easy to forget that since he's been in the farm for years coming out of High School.

I honestly would not have a problem with Rami at first base, and if Pena doesn't work out I would love to see it.

Rami has great hands, it's his arm that causes so much trouble.

Not happening. They are going hard after Pujols if he hits FA and Fielder if he doesn't.

Pujols is like 30. If you can get Pujols, you don't pass on him. Are you really serious right now?

Pujols is a Latin player, you honestly can't tell me he is only 30. He can't even tell you he is only 30. And he learned from the Big Red Mac how to stick needles up his ass.

No I am not kidding.

I would rather have fat boy Fielder. At least we know he isn't 40 and he doesn't do roids.

How can you say Pujols does roids, then say you know Fielder doesn't.

Pujols doesn't even look 40.

You're insane man.

If you know anything about roids, they not only increase your muscle building but also your metabolism. Does Fielder look like he has an increased metabolism?

40 is a freaking embellishment. But yes, I do think he is older then what he is listed as. I could see him being 33-35 right now.

Do you really want to make a 33-35 year old one of the highest paid players in baseball? No thank you.

He's the best player in baseball, so yes. And you can't just say he is older than he is without knowing.

And yes, he was born in Latin America, but he was raised in Missouri. I guess Castro is 25 then, right?

Unlike you, I do not slob on Castro's knob. I think Castro is a .300-10-15 2nd baseman. I think he is miscast as a shortstop, and yes I think he is older then what he is listed.

I smell another Soriano deal here..... oldish, latin born player with questions about PEDs.

I'm not saying, I'm just sayin!

You haven't even seen the beginning of my "racism"! You know what pisses me off, the fact that EVERY player in MLB has to wear #42 on Jackie Robinson day. It needs to go back to the old times where players could wear it by request.

If I worked my ass off for 20+ years to make it to the Majors and little kids are buying my jerseys then there is no way in hell I am going to change my number even for 1 day. That is disrespectful to your fans. If players want to do this, then let them. But do not force them to wear that number.

Wow, lol. But they aren't ALL required to change their number. Mariano Rivera keeps the same number.
