No proof means no dog. Maybe you should go sing to your made up dog. LOL

Just a quick PSA from a personal experience. My old boy wandered off when our fence blew down while I was at work. Fortunately, a vet tech picked him up and took him to find a chip and wasn't able to find it. I was biking around trying to find him (it was easier to yell to him than driving) and the vet tech just happened to pick the right neighborhood to walk him around to try to find an owner. I was so thankful and rewarded her with quite a bit of money.

But the next time I took him for an appointment, we checked for the chip and it had migrated halfway down his left leg. We ended up putting in another one just in case. He passed in 2019 so its not a problem anymore, but just be aware that they can migrate from the typical location.

Another bit of advice here- make sure to update the chip when moving and re-verify at the next visit to the vet or petco.

All of my dogs are rescues, and I always leave the rescue society on the chip as well- just in case my lady and I get eaten by coyotes and the dogs make it out, they jave a home to go to.

That's a good point. I just got a rescue a little over a week ago. I know she is chipped, but I'm not sure if our information is on it, or just the shelter. I need to check that out. Thank you!

Did it wander into your garage? Leading you to give it a bath, check the local news paper, take it to the vet, which ended up leading you to new friendship with Bears fans?

Urblock is feeling froggy I see.. He must have driven his 350 today so he feels like a real man.
He won't mention that he had to duct tape wooden blocks to the pedals to reach em though.

More like I was super depressed about needing to put down my last dog, didn't want another one, but my wife found this adorable rescue with all sorts of behavior problems, adopted it, then left me with her to go to NY because of a sudden family death, right in the middle of a project that is consuming all my energy, and also my daughter got sick the day she left.

All good though. I'm a mf warrior.

The rescue I worked with bought their microchips in pre-registered lots. They also have a clause in their contract that requires an adopter to return the animal to the rescue if it ever has to be surrendered. Registering the chip to the rescue helps to ensure that the animal doesn't wind up back in a shelter.

Anyway, if you adopted in Illinois you should have gotten a medical disclosure form with the chip number on it. Get the chip scanned to verify it. If the registry/brand name of the chip isn't listed on the form, you can use an online microchip lookup site to figure that out. From there, you can register the chip with your info... and you should. Better to not rely on a rescue/shelter to keep good records.

Final Update

The previous owners called today and told me that they were going to bring the dog to the animal shelter on their way out of town, but he escaped and they couldn't find him. The landlord at their new rental doesn't allow pets...That was 3 weeks ago...I don't believe them, and their story reeks of "they let him out of the car hoping some poor sap like me would find him and take him in."
Fields was on the loose for 3 weeks.

They also told me that the dog isn't aggressive towards humans but he is aggressive towards other dogs...That would explain the scars.

At any rate, I now have a dog, and Fields is happy.

The last thing they said to me on the phone was.
"Urblock is a study on mental deficiency"

I believe them on that.
