Luol Deng to the Magic unlikely - Orlando Sentinel

Magic GM: Team hasn’t spoken with Bulls about Luol Deng – Orlando Magic BasketBlog – Orlando Sentinel

LOL wow. Asik has barely been able to stay healthy enough to compete overseas and has been very underwhelming when he has and now people expect him to play meaningful minutes on an NBA team playing for a championship?

There's high hopes and then there's dementia.

I'd be interested to know what about Asik gives you any hope at all...let alone high hopes because I'm willing to bet less than 1% of the fans that talk about him have even seen him play.

Well your looking at it differently then the intended purpose. Do I expect him to be a starter? No (sure hope he could, but don't expect it) Am I expecting him to come in and be a decent back up? Yes. Maybe I slightly over estimated the amount of mintues that I originally posted. But I think 10-15 mintues is a decent amount where he can have a positive impact on the team. I mean lets look at the positives:
-he is 7' tall and 255 lbs he defenitely has the size for the position.

-Set a blocked shots record in Europe.

-finished the season ranked fourth in the Euroleague Rising Star Award voting
-fifth in the Best Defender Award voting
-24 years old
Meanwhile he is playing in a much more skilled league then college, so based off his statistics in Europe Pro Ball compared to Taj Gibsons college statistics, u'd have to think that he can have at least a similar impact. You can't expect much more then good rebounding and defense from your back up center and Asik gives you both. So you ask what gives me hope? the facts listed above is what gives me hope.

I disagree with what your saying. Bosh could go to Houston and easily contend for a title.

You're expecting too much.

He hasn't proven a thing in the NBA and hasn't even seen the floor for 1 second. To have ANY expectations at all is absurd. Especially for him to be a "decent" backup on an NBA Championship contender.

Have you ever seen him play? Ever? Other than on Youtube highlight clips?

Maybe I slightly over estimated the amount of mintues that I originally posted. But I think 10-15 mintues is a decent amount where he can have a positive impact on the team. I mean lets look at the positives:

A lot of guys had size for the position and have done nothing.

Remember Dalibor Bagarić and Martynas Andrisukeviskus?..Who by the way were/are both far superior Euro players to Asik.
....................

-Set a blocked shots record in Europe.
3 seasons ago before tearing up his knee...and breaking his collarbone.

-finished the season ranked fourth in the Euroleague Rising Star Award voting
So he's not even an established star there....

-fifth in the Best Defender Award voting
So that shot blocking record didn't even net him a top defender award? I mean who really cares about a 5th place top defender award in the NBA let alone over in Turkey.....

-24 years old
How is that a plus? 24 years old doesn't mean much when he's actually regressed and hasn't played since Decemeber when he got hurt. The above mentioned Martynas Adriuskeviskus is the same age and performing better in Euro Ball right now...and he could barely get a cup of coffee in the NBA on some bad Bulls teams.

Meanwhile he is playing in a much more skilled league then college, so based off his statistics in Europe Pro Ball compared to Taj Gibsons college statistics,
No. Just no. Europe Pro Ball on the whole is not better than NCAA basketball. The Euro leagues have little to no depth and outside of a few top prospects aren't worth a shit. There's a reason why you don't see a ton fo Euro's getting drafted like you did eyars ago. I think only 7 Euro players were taken in this past draft total. Either way it wasn't very many.

Omer Asik's combined stat line(Turkey and Euroleague) from the 2009-1010 season.

10.1 PPG
6.1 RPG
63 FG%
40 FT%
1.5 BPG

1 Broken Collarbone..out since December.

u'd have to think that he can have at least a similar impact.
No you wouldn't. Name the last Euro big man to come over after posting similar stats to the one above and perform anywhere near as well as Taj Gibson did.

Here's Taj's stats from his Sr year at USC: 14.3 9.0 1.3.

His freshman year was better than Asik's latest season. By far.
You can't expect much more then good rebounding and defense from your back up center and Asik gives you both. So you ask what gives me hope? the facts listed above is what gives me hope.
You don't know what Asik gives you at all. You're assuming he gives you anything even though he hasn't played 1 second of NBA basketball. You're posting obscure Turkish/Euro League accomplishments doesn't really help your point much. If this team is depending on Asik to do anything but wear a sweat suit and yell this year then we are in trouble.

Yes I have seen full games of him playing. He makes a HUGE impact on games when he is on the floor. Im starting to think you have never seen him play.

So instead of assuming, I will ask, have you ever seen him play? or are you just basing your opinion off of other Europe players (which it seems you are)

His broken colarbone was a freak injury. Before that he was tearing sh*t up.

He is one of the main reasons his team made it to the finals, in fact, he is probably the reason.

My obserd facts? they are facts dude, what do u want. Watch the dude play instead of pretending like you have seen him, cuz if you have watched him play, u wouldnt be making these kind of statements.

Bullshit you have. If so you'd comment on what he actually does on the floor rather than posting about what amounts to Cub Scout badges he's earned playing in a shit league for 20 minutes per game.

He makes a HUGE impact on games when he is on the floor.
Are you kidding me? Huge impact? The guy stands in the lane and waits for blocks. He has no offensive game to speak of and his rebounding for a 7'0 player in a league that lacks height is revoltingly bad.

On top of that the guy hasn't played in a game since December due to a broken collarbone.

Im starting to think you have never seen him play.
Says the poster who came over from Realgm where Asik is the next Jabbar....

So instead of assuming, I will ask, have you ever seen him play?
Yes. It's not difficult to. I mainly watch Spanish league games though as it's much better basketball than the Eastern European shit that comes from Turkey, Lithuinia, etc. Spanish, Greek, and Italian basketball is by far the best. Notice how Asik plays in none of those leagues?

or are you just basing your opinion off of other Europe players (which it seems you are)

LOL at that. You obviously have no clue who the other two guys I named are..........and why I brought them up.

Point.

Your head.

His broken colarbone was a freak injury. Before that he was tearing sh*t up.
The only thing he was tearing up was knee ligaments.

I already posted his combined stats from the past season before he was hurt. 10ppg and 6rpg is not "tearing it up"...especially in that league. Martynas is putting up better overall stat lines in a tougher league and I'm not even going to claim he's "tearing it up". Asik is tall and can block shots. BFD. He has bad feet, can't shoot, can't play defense against more athletic bigs(which he will see a ton of in the NBA) and has injury issues.

He is one of the main reasons his team made it to the finals, in fact, he is probably the reason.
LOL at this. He played in 7 fucking games.

My obserd facts?
Obserd isn't a word. What are you 15?

they are facts dude, what do u want.
An actual analysis of him playing basketball.

Watch the dude play instead of pretending like you have seen him,
I watched him play for less than 10 games. Unimpressed.

cuz if you have watched him play, u wouldnt be making these kind of statements.
I've watched him play.

*Yawn*

He's a 7'0 player who can block shots. He's not special.

Hey FirstTimer. Change your mind on Omer Asik?
:noah:

I Kid, but since you refused to agree with anything I said and chose the insult route, did your opinion change? Was I really way off? Didn't think so. Thanks

Not a bit.

He still can't shoot. He can't score. He's good defensively/at blocking shots...I guess?

He played 10 minutes a game. Wow.

It's a wing man's NBA. Sorry I'm not impressed with a backup center with no game outside of grabbing some rebounds and blocking a few shots.

He's a tough kid. I guess that's the best compliment I can give him.

Money or championships.

Cleveland can probably get him with sign and trade but he has said he doesn't want to go there.

So what's he going to do? Take the extra $30 million and go to Cle or start collecting his rings in Chicago?
Championships?

Yeah because Asik's 12 minutes per game and 3pts 4 rebs and <1 block per game sure showed me.

Only Chicago fans could fall in love with that.

When the hell did the heats big three begin breaking up? I dont care for the team at all but wouldnt the heat be smart enough to sign all three of them longer than one season?
