Apex is so fucking addicting.

It is. What sucks is it's been pretty much me and one other guy playing together without a consistent 3rd so we get stuck with some random person. With how big first person shooters are, it amazes me how so many people still suck at them.

I think it depends on the game as well. I'm at least decent when I play BF1 or SW Battlefront 2. However, I'm about average when playing BFV, and they're all very similar with nearly identical controls.

Quite simple, you don't play them as much as everyone else.

Tried to give NBA 2k19 a try again. Bought it, thought it was terrible so I haven’t played it since. My first online game I’m playing the Kings and was getting torched from 3 by Marvin Bagley. Went to look at his ratings and 2k has him rated at a 75 from 3. He’s shooting 25% from 3 on the season and is shooting 6% in his last 10 games. At this point I just don’t know what to say anymore. This game is so out of touch.

I'm playing Mirror's Edge Catalyst. It's pretty meh. I just want to finish the story. Explored a little, but really not much to see.

Just finished it. Pretty damn good ending actually. Surprised me there.

Anybody try out the Anthem demo?

I have EA access so I have 10 hours of gameplay before it releases Friday. Only put in 2 hours so far but it looks promising. The story looks like it will be meh but the combat is really good. Improvement over Destiny as your Javelin can fly or swim so you have more places you can explore. It has a combo detonation system similar to Mass Effect which is also fun. Also the fact I don't need to make a new character to try out a new class (can just switch Javelin Suits) makes the replay value a lot better. On higher difficulties you will have to ensure your team is balanced so easier to build a squad when squad members can switch out suits without having to change characters.

Finished the main story on Anthem this weekend. Certainly not Bioware's best effort from a narratice standpoint.

The combat is great but I am left wishing that Bioware had simply made Mass Effect into a multiplayer campaign. If they had combined the narrative of Mass Effect with the ability to have other human players as squadmates and the combat mechanics, it would have been a truly groundbreaking experience.

Was the story shallow like ME: Andromeda was?

I wanna play it for the combat/multiplayer experience, I am not too concerned with the story.

However, it seems telling if ME: Andromeda is followed by Anthem and both have similar weak/shallow narratives.

Would signal to me Bioware knows they can pump out games resembling Mass Effect with limited, to no effort in storytelling, and keep making money.

Even more shallow than Amdromeda and closer to Destiny in that regard although Destiny probably still better.

The characters are more developed than Destiny but really the draw here is the combat.

I just wish someone would combine great story, great combat and other human players in your party as so far haven't played a game where they did.

The common thought seems to be that Bioware has taken a dump/EA has ruined another set of games

That said if Destiny's story is better than Anthem, that really says something because Destiny didn't even really have much of a story. A huge disappointment coming from Bioware, but it seems that the directive is just spit out games that will make money, forget quality. Just like sports games.

All reviews I've seen did say combat is pretty dope though so at least there's that. I also heard that the missions are Destiny like as well...repetitive, boring, and unimaginative

Gears of War had/has great combat (IMO), other human players (up to 3 + you) in your party, and it has a good story (IMO), not great.

Gears also isn't open-world ala ME or Anthem, you are on a linear script pretty much.

Adding a thought which came up in my writing of my last reply to remy.

There really are a shortage of these type of multiplayer (even if it is local splitscreen), 3rd person action games.

My roommate and I in college and after, played the Army of Two games.

Then you have Gears of War, which I talked about, now allows online and up to 4 player co-op.

After that, I've found little to no co-op games in this realm, though Anthem now joins the group.

I think this might be a genuinely untapped gaming market for more mature gamers whom prefer to be able to play with friends, but have no desire to be dumped into the FPS multiplayer world of Call of Duty and the like.

If you want a game you can play splitscreen or online with 1-3 friend(s), options are surprisingly limited from what I've found.

One other thing about Anthem that reviewers seemed to complain about is that there's a really short tether mechanic for multiplayer so while the map is open world, if your teammates are just charging forward you eventually get teleported back to them if you're outside of whatever short radius they have as an acceptable range. Though I am assuming that's only an issue if you party up with randoms

Totally agree. I've been looking for good coop games for years.

I don't think you can escape that limitation in an open-world concept, though.

Wherever a player is, the game world has to render/process everything happening there.

If you allow players in a 4-person party to expand that amount, it would overtax whatever machine is doing all that rendering/processing methinks.

Even in linear scripted co-op on a single machine, it has to force you and your party together within some kind of radius.

Gears does this often by blocking off how far forward one player goes, by requiring assistance from another... not a bad compromise, but I think if you have more than 2 human players it might be forced to teleport the straggler(s)

I know, I think I recall you posting about it and I didn't fully grasp it until I went looking myself.

The limited/local co-op gaming genre is woefully small, and I feel like it caters to people whom have plenty of money to spend on games.

Seems like you either get big/mmo type multiplayer, or you get singleplayer, and localized co-op is this weird black sheep.

Yeah I think the complaint isn't with the mechanic itself, but just with the distance they chose to implement it with. Destiny had the same mechanic but no one complained about it. Definitely does not make sense to allow any player to just lag behind doing their own thing while the other players try to play the mission on the other side of the map.

One review said he didn't even have time to grab the loot that dropped from whatever battle because his teammate charged forward and it teleported him before he could get the loot box.
