The Hike by Drew Magary. Thanks @number51 for the recommendation. I love the constant subtle humor underscoring the terror.
Drew is a funny guy. Didn't realize he wrote books. I'll have to check it out.

Never Split the Difference

Former FBI negotiator on how to negotiate. Have already implemented a couple tactics in some recent deals we've closed at work. Has been an awesome read, highly recommend.

Finished 'Who Moved my Cheese' earlier this week. Quick read. Short story regarding how to deal with change in your work/personal life. Wouldn't say it's a must read, but it was a nice reminder to continually adapt and to own your situation.

The Gift of Fear by Gavin De Becker

Gavin de Becker has done a bunch of security work for high level politicians and has worked for the CIA, this book is about how our first instincts in situations that make us feel fear or apprehension are usually correct, and how we can pick up on subtle behaviors people make in order to accurately predict their intentions. Interesting and worth a read for sure.

I'm a big fan of all things non-fiction (don't mind fiction, but books that are fiction are no longer high on my list) mainly because you could learn a lot from such books.

Into Thin Air, by John krakauer. Great book about the 1996 Mount Everest disaster as told by one of the people climbing the mountain. Great book, gives a great perspective on what climbing Everest is really like, and just how dangerous things could get in such harsh conditions.

I read that last January. I'm fascinated by the whole history of climbing Everest. I don't climb at all never was interested, but I have hiked some fairly gnarly climbs in the Rockies for skiing/snowboarding so I can relate a little bit to how extreme what they're doing is.

I haven't watched the show, or read the books... but in my experience books are almost always better than show / movie adaptations. Very few exceptions to this rule in my personal experience. The book format allows for a much larger level of detail from a story telling perspective. The only exception is usually with a thin plot where the visuals take precedence over substance. This could just be personal preference though.
One exception to this is fight club. The book and the movie are virtually identical.

They did such a great job with the movie that I think it ultimately trumps the book.

I read a lot of non fiction.

Eruption: The Untold Story of Mt. St. Helens.

An interesting look at how the greedy, ignorant public; corporate interests, politicians pandering to the masses, and a natural disaster can lead to a major clusterfuck.
