Clendening should be nowhere near this team next year. He needs some good seasoning in the AHL.

I really liked the way Olsen started but he faded off once teams started to exploit his lack of foot speed and constantly took him wide.

In terms of O'Brien...I'd be for that as he brings some needed tools to the back line.

Yeah, not a big fan of Olsen at the moment. It's another situation where he could use to have more time in the AHL, but the Hawks problems with D make him have to play in the NHL before I think he's ready.

He's not fast enough right now and I think that kills him. He's got to learn to play to his speed and still be successful.

Personally i am in the inoriy who thinks Kane should get traded and id love to dangle him for Getzlaf or Nash. Kane has hit his ceiling and is nothing more than a 70-80 point playmaker who will average 20-30 goals per...he offers no size, grit, PK ability. He sucks at center and really did little last yr on PP....He loses puck battles and is not a chip and go get it player..yes he is very unique as a play maker but does really nothing else well. Getzlaf or Nash both can net 30-40 goals, back check, check, dump and chase, can play center, have size

Getzlaf or Nash? Pfft. Set the bar higher if you're going to dangle Kane's name in trade talks.

You would have to trade for way more in a deal with Kane.. and I don't get how anyone can assert a player has hit his ceiling at 23 and limits his ability to productivity that is worse than what he did as a 21 or 22 year old.

Great point. Nobody knows what this kid's roof is...he's 23 and an immature 23 at that. Dumping Kane at this point just makes for another hole to fill. If he ever grows up and spends more time in the off season lifting weights than lifting beers....it will be the best trade the Hawks never made.

Why would the Hawks trade for Nash? High cap hit. Shitty contract.

That's the kind of thing that the Hawks are trying to avoid. Big, shitty contracts.

I think everyone is missing what Bowman will really do.

He'll leave the team as is, and keep Rusty Olesz on the Hawks roster to fill up the cap.

That would be dissapointing

I'd probably trade Kane for a top pairing type defender with size, a 2 line center who can play both ways, and a high draft pick.

And I wouldn't take Nash for a pack of chewing gum because that contract is awful and he's getting up there. As top heavy as we are, if I were going to take on a massive contract it'd have to be for some stone cold killer like Stamkos, which we know nobody's shedding.

I'm going to answer this in one of the other Kane threads, because I feel like writing up a nice long post for everyone to argue over, and I don't want to clog up this one.

Getting up there??? :obama: My math might be off- but he turns 28 in a few hours up over....

generally speaking that is the prime of guys' careers - although in fairness he has been in the league for a long time ( Columbus, I'm sure drafted him and stuck him right in their lineup ). . .

I thought he would replace the Kopecky role and production in the least...

I thought of one thing that I've not heard anyone mention about being possible for next year. Of course it would have to be re-earned but perhaps Ben Smith could make the team and be a player on the 4th line next season. I believe he is supposed to be healthy by September and should be good for camp. I don't think he'll ever be a top 6 player and don't see how much more Rockford can do for him in that regard.

for Olesz

Who cares besides Rocky though?

If Rocky is willing to bury him in Rockford then that is best for the Blackhawks because that comes with no cap hit and an insurance policy if injuries get out of hand. Also, no Huet on the books so I'm sure Rocky is thrilled.
