What If Nagy Is Playing the Long Con?

Even though Nagy says that there is no way that Justin Fields can win the starting job in training camp, I have doubts about how sincere that is. If he's the better QB, he should be the starter to give us the best chance to win. I wonder if Nagy is playing a long con game to make the opposition plan for Andy Dalton in the first few games, and then blow their plans away by starting Justin Fields. The game plan against Andy Dalton would be different against an athletic play maker like Justin Fields. I don't see a reason why a coach would give the opposition a hand by naming a starter so early in the season. Maybe he's just throwing some disinformation out there to trick the opposition.

I get the best man ready…
But my fandom wants JF on the grid iron.
Just the optimism alone fires me up!

Go Bears…

Perhaps Nagy doesn't want to start Fields until the Oline is working as a unit.
It may not just who is better between Dalton and Fields, it's who will have the higher upside in the LONG run.
Our Oline may be suspect and it's only after watching them work together in a real game, that Nagy may be assured that the QB (no matter how skilled), won't be at a high risk.

Its football you are always at risk and the best way to protect him is to run the football because how can he get hurt if hes not dropping back to throw 40 times a game .

There is really no excuse for Fields not to start for this team in this situation the real issue is this the right coaching staff to get it done

Dalton was promised he would be the starter when he agreed to come to Chicago. He said he had offers from other teams but chose Chicago because he was promised he would start. They won't go back on their word now, that would look really bad in future negotiations. I think Dalton gets week one and two and we will see from there.

I think we're in a Glennon situation and the contract dictates who starts the first game. From there it's up to the player to prove he shouldn't be on the field. If Dalton is OK Fields gets to learn, if not he gets to start.

Honestly, it will be obvious to everyone (including the team) when Justin Fields should be the starter. Should that point arise and Nagy ignores it, then he will accomplish one thing he hasn't managed to do over the years: lose his players. Nagy not playing Fields when he's ready is not a concern of mine as he's proven himself to be quick-draw McGraw on pulling QBs in the past.

Ppl want to see the shiny, new toy...but the ghost of the Trubisky situation still haunts Bears brass.

The directive from above Nagy is sit Fields most, if not all of 2021.

Yeah if Dalton isn't playing well (and it's his fault), I can almost promise you that Nagy will extend that hook so fast it'll leave his head spinning. I base that on his past coaching.

I don’t think he ever actually meant that when it was said. Media just took it and ran with it…

this. I mean, Nagy did technically say it, but in such a roundabout way. was always a bit of a stretch to act like he was really being that definitive

I personally just think they are probably perfectly comfortable with Dalton starting for a bit. And rooks take time to adjust to the NFL. Doesn't matter if you talking bout Manning or Rodgers or whoever.

It's almost for sure that more time for Fields will be better than less.

no excuse?

like being a rookie that never took a snap in the NFL?

jfc man, chill

Fields gon lead this team for decades if they don't fuck it up. And no part of not fucking it up requires Fields out there day 1.

That's spot on.

If Fields starts for the next 12 to 15 years...no one should care that he only got 7 starts in 2021.

I actually welcome halftime's cynicism. He ended up being right about Trubisky. I think he's wrong about Fields, but none of us know that yet. I'm cool with what he has to say, though I disagree. Our disagreeing is not at all affecting how my delicious lunch is tasting. Time will bear (see what I did there?) all this out.
