What if the Bears roster is really just a 4-13 team?

I think Eberflus' greatest ability was to somehow turn games into annoying taffy-pulls, but he was such a terrible strategist that he lost every close game. I think Eberflus in some way covered over the 'perpetual' rebuild that of Ryan Poles. The Bears roster is poorly constructed and completely devoid of star players. What Bears players could start for other good teams?

To me, they could overhaul the vast majority of the roster and get the same results. DJ Moore is probably their best player, Jaylon Johnson could start for any NFL team, and then you have Montez Sweat who would be a nice addition to most teams. Caleb and Rome have potential to be really good....but after that you just have a bunch of guys. Losing Brisker hurts more in the run defense, and losing Billings is the same. I just can't believe that the Bears haven't "uncovered" more good players this long into a rebuild.

Nah, roster is fringe playoff worthy.

The problem is the offense was non existant for 3/4 of the season thus far because of a rookie QB, an idiot OC, and a GM who thought the OL was the deepest its ever been.

If you had Thomas brown running the show all season they may have won a few of those earlier games(Colts, Texans, Cummanders)

We're definitely better than 4 wins.

I will say... I think we were definitely overrated going into this season. Many people had us going to the playoffs, and some were even talking Super Bowl. Bad coaching aside... it's become clear that we're actually not a really great team. The O-line is obviously not good, the pass rush isn't great, and Caleb absolutely looks like a rookie. In hindsight, a projection of 8-9 wins would have been a better representation of our talent. And if we had better coaching, I think we definitely would have gotten to 9 wins. But in a tough NFC, I don't think that would been enough to make the playoffs.

Yeah, this team is in a much better spot with Brown running the offense from week 1. With that said, it probably means Flus is sticking around.

The bears have a ton of guys that would start for plenty of good teams.

Caleb
Moore
Allen
Rome
Kmet
Teven Jenkins
Johnson
Sweat
Billings
Gordon
Brisker
Byard

Hell, Braxton jones and Darnell wright have both been playing very well and are young ascending players.

Edwards….

It’s a good roster, just needs a couple of upgrades in the trenches.

If the team was that bad it says 1) defense is not the way to win at all and 2) Poles really sucks.

I really don't think the team is as bad as they're coached to be.

I wouldn't say this team is loaded with talent, but enough to win games with an average HC.
But, I'm not sure if the roster is that much improved compared to the number of dudes drafted/signed in FA in the last 3 years.
There's been some improvements at some positions, but there's still questions on whether some replacements are any better (i.e. Roquan vs Edmunds). as well as weaknesses that still need to be addressed (O-line, D-line).

The Bears are exactly what you don’t want to be in the NFL…bad but not bad enough. They are bound to end up stuck in a endless cycle of mediocrity as they have been doing since 1985.

They have a good roster, and a young QB who will be top tier. Upgrade the trenches this is a playoff team.

The coaching has been abysmal. Just look at the instant huge improvement in the offence as soon as that clown Waldron was removed. And enough said about Eberflus’ bumbling idiocy, shitting his pants at the end of every close game, confused look on his face.

I honestly have rarely seen coaches have such a negative effect on a team in any sports. They were an absolute embarrassment. The players would have done better organising themselves.

The Bears are better than their record...

Flus grabbed defeat from the jaws of vistory one too many times.
More like 11 too many times. His record in one score games is staggeringly bad.

The secondary is well above average with a health Brisker, though that's a big question mark at this point. Edmunds is a great cover linebacker and Edwards is a tackling machine. Sweat would start for any team, Billings can play and Dexter has shown some flashes. The D-line definitely needs more but there's plenty there to work with.

On offense, the tackles have actually shown up this year while the interior has fallen apart. Pryor was only meant to be a swing guy and had to come rescue us from Bates injuries and Nate Davis suckage. Jenkins has massively disappointed in a contract year and Shelton is just a guy. But our receivers are tits, Kmet is solid, Caleb has all the talent and potential in the world and the backs are solid.

I think if you compare the Lions' skill players versus ours, it's a toss-up. We're deeper at receiver, tight ends are comparable but edge to LaPorta, backs are definitely edge to Detroit but you'd take Caleb Williams' upside over Goff's reliability but shortcomings. The offensive line and coaching though makes a massive difference. Find the right guy to lead the team and beef up the trenches and we could be looking at a top 10 offense next year. That's how the NFL works, though it seems to work that way more often for teams not named the Bears.

A legit 4-13 team/roster doesn’t compete in games like the Bears did this year. How many games would say Eberflus has lost for the Bears this year?

If you don't think coaching and in game decision making matters please feel free to compare and contrast the record in one score games for the bears under the fluberbus vs the queens under koc

The difference in 2.67 years is staggering

There were stupid Bears fans who thought this team could go to the playoffs.

But they were stupid Bears fans.

Anyone who looked at our schedule could see there was a chance we could start the season with a decent record and then see we were going to get clobbered.

This offensive line was always going to be a problem. This defensive line was always going to be a problem.

And we had a QB who hadn't played a single game in the NFL.

Didn't take a genius to know this team would be lucky to finish .500. Real lucky.

The fact our defense can't stop the run? That was a new wrinkle.
