What if the Bears roster is really just a 4-13 team?

There were stupid Bears fans who thought this team could go to the playoffs.

But they were stupid Bears fans.

Anyone who looked at our schedule could see there was a chance we could start the season with a decent record and then see we were going to get clobbered.

This offensive line was always going to be a problem. This defensive line was always going to be a problem.

And we had a QB who hadn't played a single game in the NFL.

Didn't take a genius to know this team would be lucky to finish .500. Real lucky.

The fact our defense stop the run? That was a new wrinkle.
in all fairness I had the Bears pegged to get obliterated in their division games. I went back and looked and added the combined points they've lost to Packers, Vikings, and Lions. it's 7 points total in 3 losses. and those are good teams, with Lions being slotted as the best in the league.

the real issue is every game the Bears lost, they could've won, if not for stupid shit like having 35 seconds left to win the game and spending 30 of those seconds with their thumbs up their asses with 1 timeout left to compose themselves to actually make an attempt to score a touchdown.

they've gotten BTFO far worse in a multitude of other seasons since Ditka otherwise, me being entirely objective here. the Eberflus obstacle is gone, let's wait and see what happens next. the season's already lost, there's no sense in being continuously outraged by it.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Michigan Wolverines
  2. Ohio Bobcats
The Bears offense has a rookie QB and great weapons for his growth. It reminds me of last year's chargers (who couldn't stay healthy) in that the record disguises the talent there.

On defense, we have good DBs and a lot of DL who should be fighting for their role on the team.

That sounds like a team that tops out at 6-8 wins, depending on how the funny-shaped ball bounces. That same team could have 2 wins, because of poor end-of-game management. The margin for error to win in this game is pretty small.

I agree about it being stupid to be outraged by this season. Since the Washington game it turned into wanting this team to lose so we were guaranteed our inept coach would be gone by Black Monday. Which I was used to with Nagy and last year when I wanted them to lose to get the #1 pick.

So this is a familiar place.

But now we are in a completely different galaxy and it's going to feel good hoping they win.

In actuality I couldn't actually root for them to lose during the game but the anger pretty quickly (20 minutes?) turned into resignation and then an understanding that having Caleb play well and having the team lose was best case scenario.

Downside was that Caleb wasn't experiencing winning and that's no small thing, but getting rid of Flus is/was bigger.

The Bears are exactly what you don’t want to be in the NFL…bad but not bad enough. They are bound to end up stuck in a endless cycle of mediocrity as they have been doing since 1985.

Funny thing, that's pretty much the Lovie years everyone longs for because he came close.

I think Eberflus' greatest ability was to somehow turn games into annoying taffy-pulls, but he was such a terrible strategist that he lost every close game. I think Eberflus in some way covered over the 'perpetual' rebuild that of Ryan Poles. The Bears roster is poorly constructed and completely devoid of star players. What Bears players could start for other good teams?

To me, they could overhaul the vast majority of the roster and get the same results. DJ Moore is probably their best player, Jaylon Johnson could start for any NFL team, and then you have Montez Sweat who would be a nice addition to most teams. Caleb and Rome have potential to be really good....but after that you just have a bunch of guys. Losing Brisker hurts more in the run defense, and losing Billings is the same. I just can't believe that the Bears haven't "uncovered" more good players this long into a rebuild.
There's a lot of talent on this team. Some holes, sure, especially on the O-line. But a good coach would have this team in playoff contention.

Poles looked really uncomfortable a the press conference.

Maybe Warren flexes his muscle and boots him if he doesn't like Poles choice for the next coach?

It was brutal.
He looked like someone just waiting for his turn. Didn’t look uncomfortable to me. He ain’t tripping in my honest opinion. Not yet at least…

We're definitely better than 4 wins.

I will say... I think we were definitely overrated going into this season. Many people had us going to the playoffs, and some were even talking Super Bowl. Bad coaching aside... it's become clear that we're actually not a really great team. The O-line is obviously not good, the pass rush isn't great, and Caleb absolutely looks like a rookie. In hindsight, a projection of 8-9 wins would have been a better representation of our talent. And if we had better coaching, I think we definitely would have gotten to 9 wins. But in a tough NFC, I don't think that would been enough to make the playoffs.
Yet some on here claim that nobody claimed that, or at least less than 5 percent, amazing how things change when your team implodes

Borom stinks, he has always stunk. He is not an NFL player.
you can add Jones and Wright to the OL problems as they have regressed instead of taking the step forward that most thought they would, in fact, Wright is approaching bust status considering his top 10 selection

If this team did not waste the first 30 minutes of almost every game they played this year they would probably have more than a winning record. And Eberflus most likely would still have a job.
