What is your favorite Restaurant and why?

I'll start it off. I have two in the Chicago area. One is a chain and the other isn't.

First would be Bob Chins. We eat lunch there 2-3 times a month on the weekend. They fly a lot of their seafood in fresh daily.

Halibut, Grouper, Onaga are all excellent eating fish. I suggest Char Grilled.

If you like Crab Legs (although out of season right now so expensive) they are excellent.

Second would be Ruth Chris Steak house. I used to be a huge Wild Fire fan before eating Ruth Chris. Excellent Steak, but also a chain like Wild Fire.

Capital Grill get's an honorable mention as well. Probably the best Banana Cream Pie I've ever had.

Since I don't live in the Chicago area my choices wouldn't have much meaning to most of you so I will just pick my favorite place I have eaten in Chicago.

I really loved Smoque. It is a barbecue place that was featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives on the food network. It's kind of a dive , but the food was fabulous. We sampled a bunch of different things. The ribs and brisket were to die for. The pulled pork was also excellent. I even enjoyed the corn bread and I don't like cornbread. They had some yummy sides too and some killer peach cobbler. I'd eat there at least once a week if I lived in Chicago.

My favorite fast food place is Dairy Queen. I am a burger girl and I love their burgers cause they use lots of cheese and it gets nice and melty.

Casa Mia in Naplate, Ill. (by Ottawa) - the best Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo I've ever had.

Best Burger - Portillo's - my order: DCB N/O N/L SF MC for those of you who know the Portillo codes.

Antares in Dallas - first date with my wife.

From your avator, I'm guessing you're in the Tampa area. If yes, do you know if the Kapok Tree restaurant is still open? My Grandparents lived in a small town north of Clearwater up Hwy 19 and I remember them taking us to the Kapok Tree when I was a kid visiting them in the 60's. Don't remember if the food was any good but that big tree was impressive.

Great Beef n Cheese fries.

For Gyros's it's gotta be the Works in Glenview or Tasty Spin in Buffalo Grove.

Have a burger at Paradise Pup and it'll make Portillos look like McDonalds. Actually, you can order anything at Paradise Pup and it'll make Portillos look like McDonalds, their italian beef is cut fresh daily, sausage is fantastic, chicken is great too. Johnnies Beef is also great, and of course Gene and Judes...

Besides the greasy shit:

Favorite steak is the Bison with coffee rub from Wildfire, probably the best steak I've ever had. I also like Yardhouse in Glenview, I'll take my choice of over 120+ beers with my meal, thanks. Nothing else really compares with those two in the suburbs, the city is a different story.

I also thought the veal I had at Paris in Las Vegas (Eiffel Tower) was the best meal I've ever had.

A close second would be the steak I had at the 95th.

Yeah - they write the codes on the bag they put your order in. I usually go through the drive-thru and when I give them my order - I just give them the codes and some of them get a kick out of it.

DCB N/O N/L SF MC - double cheeseburger, no onion, no luttuce, small fries, medium coke.

How could I forget my favorite meal of the day - breakfast, and my favorite breakfast restaurant - Walker's Pancake House. There are two or three of them - I think used to be Walker Brothers and then maybe they split out to just Walker's - can't remember but there is one in Schaumburg and I believe there is still one in Waukegan, maybe on Green Bay Rd - can't remember now cuz it's been a while sonce I've been up in that area.

But - their Cinnamon Apple Pancake, thick sliced bacon, and fresh squeezed OJ - mmm mmm mmm!!! Yummy!

Wife and I love, and I mean, love food. Especially good food. It is hard to narrow down favorites since we have so many, but perhaps frequents for us.

Restaurant Michael in Evanston. We have followed the chef from his time at La Deux Gros (Two Fat Guys), to La Francis, to this restaurant. He is a French saucier specialist, and while his background is in French cooking (and is outstanding at it), this restaurant was a turn for him for two reasons (1) He wanted to fuse with other food stylings while still keeping the core French or vice versa; (2) do this on the cheap ($75-$100 for two with wine vs. $300-$500 for two with perhaps wine). He has done both and gets our recommendation.

Antico Posto in Oak Brook. This is a Let Us Entertain You restaurant (Wildfire, Maggiano's, Shaw's, Big Bowl, and more are too), but one if their best. It is an Itallian pasta primarily restaurant. The Gnocci will be one of the best you will ever eat in the states.

Sakura in Rolling Meadows. Other than being walking distance for me, and the head sushi chef lives a few houses down from us, this is one of the best traditional sushi houses in the Chicagoland area. Sure it does not have the glitz and the big fancy named rolls, but the quality, cuts, and sizing is perfect. The wasabi is also made in house. BTW, the head Chef loves Old Style and we can usually bribe a free side or two from him with it.

Season's 52. Yes it is a chain (started in Orlando, and where I had it first), but still small and growing. Food styling is all over the place, but most every dish is grilled or has something grilled to it. Menu changes with the season's, and their various types of meats are excellent. Desert is all shot glass style, meaning the desert is in a tall shot glass and the perfect size, IMO.

Arun's in Chicago (On Kedzie, near Irving Park). Traditional Thai with the head chef's own stylings and sometimes fuzed with other food stylings as well. The food can be spicy or not so spicy however you want it. Many of the larger dining tables are in mostly private rooms, and it is Prie Fixe only. Also the menu is constantly in change.

The Gage in Chicago (Millennium Park). Awesome food and very very eclectic. And sometimes food you would never think of trying, but the styling just makes it irresistible not to try. Easily a place to drop in for just a quick appetizer and perhaps a libation before moving on to something else.

If you are willing to drop some serious coin and have 3-5 hours on hand for great meals L2O and Tru are among the best in Chicago and I would recommend L2O over Alinea any day of the week.

I post more as I think of them.

Ron, I agree with Bob Chin's and Ruth's Chris as outstanding restaurants. I highly recommend Ruth's Chris for steak and do the porterhouse for two if tyou have someone else with you. Hot(er) plates and loads of butter always make things better.

The one in Schaumburg is called Richard Walker's. He now lives in San Deigo (opened a Walker Brother's there), and Richard Walker's is run by some of the other parts of the family. The daughters still work at the one in Schaumburg. Still easily some of the best bacon on the planet!

All of the sitedown resturants at Paris in LV get my seal of approval. Just as good as the resturants and the Wynn, and far cheaper.

I went to that BBQ place once only to find that they are closed on Mondays. So I ended up grabbing something at that shitty little dog stand at Western & Armitige on my way to the Map Room.

Then I was able to wash the taste out of my moth with pints of alpha king and old rapuitins.

Best burger is Kumas. Hands down.

Haven't been there yet but REALLY want to next time I'm in the city.

I would also like to hit up one of the Brazilian steakhouses. I hear you can cut a deal with them during slow times on weekday afternoons.

Jason's Deli.

Love the hot pastrami. The muffaletta is good to. They have a great salad bar when I'm behaving. Jason's Deli has been a constant for me the last 15 years. Not sure if they have them in the Chicago area.
