I love Chipotle, although I don't really go there for authentic mexican food, but the barbacoa burrito is definitely a treat.

If I want something more authentic, there's a nice little shack not even 5 minutes from my house. First time I walked in it was like I was in Mexico, it's like the place stopped everything and looked at me, stuck out like a sore thumb in this place that literally looked like a shitty cafeteria. The food is amazing though, sometimes it's those little places that do it best.

Today I actually went to Noburi Sushi -- my favorite sushi spot in Chicago. Best I've ever had was in San Diego, called Fish Market.

Since the thread title asked," What is your favorite Restaurant" not "Where's your favorite place to eat"
<
I will comply!

I dined at this restaurant in Green Bay (can't remember the name) it is a steak house where you can grill your own steaks or you can chose to have them make it.

But my favorite in the area is Tom's Steak House located in Melrose Park. The prime rib is awesome!

Gotta try the duck sausage with the foie gras. Anthony Bourdain enjoyed it as well.

My claim to Anthony Bourdain fame; I've been vacationing at Isla Grande in Panama for years. During his Panama episode he ate at the same restaurant/bar on Isla Grande that we eat at several times a trip when we visit.

I go for the Empanada and Flounta's. As for the area around here, it's probably one of the better ones. Best Mexican I ever had was a small place in Carbondale. Their enchaladas were unreal.

Not a huge fan of Chipolte or El Famous. Although Elfamous corn tortilla steak taco's aren't bad.

neither of those are exactly authentic either per se, I cantell you of a few little "real mexican" places that aren't far from you and are very good.

when it comes to great authentic mexican, the more I stick out and the shittier the place looks the better it usually is. There is this one little store front place I used to go to when I lived in Palatine on rt 12 next to an eye dr in a strip mall, I never knew the name of and they got to know me so I fit in as I went at least once a week. The food was effing amaizing.

I too like a chipotle burrito from time to time as well Tony.

Also Mr Kelly, you need to try Grande Jakes, while I've never been to the one in Buffalo Grove, I have been to Lindenhurst and the Antoich store they all know me and I got to know the owner and his sister (that runs the Antioch) and if the BG one is anything like the other two, it'll be excellent. The price is great (though they just had an across the board increase as I think they've gotten more popular) They have a free salsa bar and chips which has about 10 fresh slalsa's from mild to hot, the fresh pickled vedge on it and the jalapeno salsa that is a "medium" takes 3 days to make is excellent. I recomend the fish taco's, though the carne mole tacos, burritos, steak tacos and guac is great too!

LOL! The steak taco's in corn tortillas is pretty authentic. Even if you go to the hole in the wall on Dundee and Wolf, which are mexicans. There was the place next too Yen Yen, but not sure it was there. It was about as authentic as you can get. The hole in the wall in Carbondale in the old Arby's building is still some of the best I've had.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
Well, when I'm back in Chicago, I always make it a point to stop in at Pizzeria Uno. Yes, I know asking Chicagonians about which pizza they like best will likley start a riot, but I love that joint.

As for out here in Portland, aside from chain places, most of my favorite places are microbrew pubs. For instance, the Bridgeport, the Rogue, and if we go up to Seattle, it's the Pyramid and the Pike. Seattle does have the better seafood, what with being *on* the water which is not an EPA superfund site (I love the Pike's Salmon burger--which was fresh-caught that day).

As for other places, Fire on the Mountain makes great wings in Portland, and for Asian food, two places I trust are "Mandarin Garden" in Issaquah (east of Seattle), and Wild Ginger (Downtown Seattle).

There is an authentic german restaurant in Mascoutah, IL called Roemer Topf and it has quickly become a favorite of the wife's and mine. The family is from Bavaria and a few of their watresses are recent german immigrants. The food and the atmosphere is great.

If you're looking for good Mexican - hit up La Pasadita. There's like 3 of them on the same block in the city.

Same block... 2 of them are next door to each other and the 3rd is directly across the street! have they closed one of them yet?

Dunno - unfortunately, it's been a while since I've been there. It's so greasy and good.

We'd always drive by on the way back from games and it would take a lot of willpower not to stop. Being 10:30 in that area helped.
