I have a 7 year old Lab/Husky/Doberman/Shepherd mix (in my avatar) and a 3 year old Dutch Shepherd/ greyhound (we think) mix.
I love mutts.

He had plenty, trust me. Spent over 7 grand on chemotherapy over a year, then the cancer came back and we had to let him go. Incredibly sad. I loved that dog.
Bruts man. I. Come from a long line of men who put dogs down on their own when they become really ill (regardless of how close they are with the animal) I didn't speak to my pops for about six months after he put my last dog down growing up. I felt and stiill feel he jumped the gun so to speak on that one. He went through hell and vowed it was the last time he would ever do it.

It''s a tough thing dude. I struggled with it a lot, but in the end...needed to do what was best for the dog vs. me.

I literally thought of that dog as a child, because at the time...I did not have one. Interesting sidenote to this conversation, I literally got the news about the results of the bioposy from his tumor about 15 minutes after my first daughter was born. Standing in the delivery room. Words can't possibly express the contrasting feelings of joy and sadness I felt simultaneousely at that moment.

Edit> Here's one of all three of us a few months or so before he passed away. Probably like 65 lbs in this photo, down from around 110.

I'm surprised one of you degenerates didn't say, "The kind that licks peanut butter off my taint." I feel let down

Nice. I've thought about maybe a dobie next time around...mainly b/c of the heat down here. Pretty hot in FL for a GSD.

Dobies are such great dogs. They are pretty needy though, but great for families when someone's always around.

They have gentle temperaments these days too, so you get the best of both worlds in that they look fierce and mean, but they are pretty gentle and sweet dogs.

Purebread border collie, we just got him 4 days ago. 10 months old crate and house trained, great with the kids. Literally lets my one year old maul him and lay on him. Also already pretty keen with frisbee fetch.
