What TV show is better? The Wire vs. Breaking Bad

The sheer quantity of quality characters in The Wire dwarfs BB.

Love breaking bad, but it is not on the same level at all in my humble imho.

I agree with this, so many great/unique/likable characters in the Wire that BB doesn't come close to having. I loved BB but The Wire is on another level. Sopranos is at that level, so many characters. Whatever show is your fave it does just come down to personal preference...favorite beer, burger joint, restaurant, big tits, small tits, big ass, small tight ass, blond, i'll stop myself there.

The issue is BB and Wire don't have the re-watch value of the Sopranos. I like all of the above, but to analyze them, I prefer the evolution of Breaking Bad to all 3, I prefer the highs of the Wire, and I prefer the tension cutting with the Sopranos. I'll pass on the thick ideological agenda of the Wire though. I'm sure if you support that agenda, well duh, it's the best thing ever, amirite? That's just how it works.

Put me on a deserted Island for 10 years with a limited amount of shows to re-watch, I would pass on both in all fairness. And no, I wouldn't want Lost..... At least people aren't bringing that over-rated mess up still. Not to say it was bad, it's just not in the GOAT class.

So you would take BB to the deserted island, I wouldn't argue. I re- watch The Wire every 2 or 3 years, it will always have that re-watch appeal for me. I lost interest in Lost halve way thru the 1st season. So no Wire or Sopranos on the island what else besides BB would you take?

These might be my two favorite shows of all-time. But BB wins. As far as I'm concerned, I can't imagine a show ever being better than BB, that's essentially perfection.

I did watch the first three episodes though. Looks good. I was a big fan of "Hill Street Blues" back in the day and "The Wire" feels very much like a completely uncensored version of that show. So I will have to get back to it for sure, but I already see what peeps like @Gustavus Adolphus mean. These two shows just don't compare to one another very well other than possibly being the best shows on their respective networks without being the most popular.

Anymore...nothing much.

It's funny you also mention "The Sopranos" because when I first got Prime, I saw they had some of the old HBO full series. Immediately I asked myself:

"Do I watch "The Wire" or "The Sopranos"???"

Because those are two of the HBO shows I am constantly told "you absolutely must watch".

I went "Sopranos" first.
