I was under the impression you made these journeys last year...

Ha no, but I posted about them last year looking for feedback. Wanted to see if the Bora Bora cost was justified or not. I took the plunge. Am going in April so will report back.

I've been to Vietnam and Laos several times, always fun.

Yeah I've been a few times as one of my frat brothers lives there now and just got married. It's one of my favorite places as it's cheap as ****, the people are great, and the girls are hot as ****. My friend is Vietnamese American and so can speak the language fluently so that always helps.

Was crushing me some homemade snake wine the past few days there as my friend's father in law had this mix that was basically a Cobra, a viper in the Cobra's mouth, a Crow, Ginseng and Gingko Balboa that he's been fermenting for like 10 years. Shit got me fucked up pretty quickly with no hangover.

Cuckaloi. No idea how to spell it. They always had it and drank with every meal.
Was far better in the North but the South was a much better time.

Yeah rice wine is usually used as the alcohol of choice hence the similarity to sake. Mine tasted more like roots as the ginseng flavor was overpowering. If you drank it without knowing what was in it, you would never guess it had snakes and crows in it. The father in law said the snake and crow was for arthritis and not for flavor.

Rouu Ran or Cobra Wine is what my friend called it. They don't even remove the venom as ethanol basically breaks up the toxins and there were apparently a couple of instances where people were bitten by the snake when they tried to refill the rice wine when it was empty as apparently the snake can occasionally survive drenched in alcohol and due to the nutrients that the alcohol breaks up from the plants included.

Yeah, my parents also fell into the timeshare trap.

As for vacations:
Bryce Canyon National Park in April
Glacier National Park in July

We're also looking at a quick trip to New York. Never been there, but I want to go to MSG to see a Rangers game.

Whatever you do, don't stay at a hotel in Times Square. Place is a fucking nightmare.

Looks like the woman wants to drive somewhere slightly warmer and do some additional camping for her birthday weekend (mid April). Nothing too long of a trek from Chicagoland, so Tennessee or Kentucky perhaps. Any suggestions?

lol...I have a childhood buddy who rented an "apartment" in Times Square for a couple years. Thing was basically a fucking hallway for 3k+ a month.

KY and TN can still get pretty nippy in April (if in tents). With a camper or RV, never mind.

Enjoy.

P.S. I could never get enough people to commit in advance, but I always thought it would be cool to rent a houseboat on Kentucky Lake or even in MO or TN.
They have some really nice boats with a hot tub on top, a water slide, AC, big screens, full kitchen... Then you rent or bring a smaller boat and or jet skis to tow along and anchor and camp wherever. Many bigger lakes like Kentucky or Lake in the Ozarks also have nice restaurants, casinos, comedy clubs, etc. you can pull right up to.
Here's an example. The first thing that came up on a google search: http://www.houseboating.org/58-foot-Lakeview-Yacht-Houseboat

Going to Hawaii for a couple weeks, but haven't decided which island yet. The only islands I haven't been to are Molokai and Lanai, but I'm bringing the kids and I'm thinking that they may get bored on those islands. Anyone ever been to those islands care to share your experience?
Please post you experience. I was in Hawaii for two weeks in September but not on the islands you want to go to. I was in Seattle and Portland last week. The amount of homeless surprised me in Portland. View attachment 2304

We're planning on doing a house boat for a long weekend for the yearly "'sippin on the 'sippi" party next year (10th anniversary of that get together).

The woman and I are both well equipped to do a tent camp in the temp range of TN or Kentucky in April (lows in the 40s at night). Just wondering if there were any campgrounds anyone would recommend. I've spent plenty of time out in the Appalachians, but don't really know much about where to stay in the western portion of the state.

If you go to TN, whereabouts are you thinking? Appalachian Mtns? Heard it's pretty fun there.

East side of the Mississippi valley, more or less. Like I said, I've spent plenty of time in the Appalachians (and love it), but that would probably be too severe a drive for an extended weekend. If we wanted to put in that many hours driving we'd probably just go out to my family's cabin on the Delaware.
