This.

They had no idea it was an STD, therefor there was no "1970's AIDS scare". Maybe BearsBud is right, the world (with the exception of BearsBud and his friends) was "fucking dense". Even if that is the case, I don't think this group of BB and friends could constitute "a scare". The 80's AIDS scare was real, the 70's AIDS scare is fiction. Although in BB's defense, it is fun re-writing history.

Now back to the hairy hippy chicks. I don't think I ever really knew any actual hippies. The girls I knew back then shaved, not everything, legs and pits for sure, most guys were cool with that level of grooming. I find the Brazilian thing kinda creepy, leave something just out of tradition. Just one old mans opinion.

Do you like picking corn silk out of your teeth as well?

So yes, AIDS existed, Yes, people were dying of it, and no, I can find no periodic evidence that there was an awareness in the 70's of this disease being categorized... the only pre-80's information was retroactive study.

Dummy...The arguemnt is whether AIDS existed before 1980

IT DID...EVERYONE GETS THAT BUT YOU

And as far as public awareness?..Anyone who had a TV was aware..Maybe you shoulda got one

Now...Watch him go back to.."AIDS didnt exist before 81 cause thats when they named it"...rofl

In the meantime, number51 went out and bought a Chevy that the Chevy nameplate fell off. He told his friends that it wasn't a Chevy cause it didn't have a name on it..lol..Then he went to register it. The tag application it asked for the make of the vehicle..He put down.." None cause it doesn't have a name"
Then to make it worse, his wife gave birth to their son..He went to the hospital and the nurse asked him what he wanted to name his son..He replied.."We don't have a son..He doesn't have a name so he doesn't exist. Wait till he has a name and then I can tell you what I want to name him"..

The title of this thread "What were the 70s like?"

I answered the question. I talked about drugs, race, and sex. I stated that IMHO the 70's was the golden age of promiscuity:
After the oppression of previous generations, before AIDS. I think that's what sex was like in the 70's.

You seem to have been involved in a 70's AIDS scare that the rest of the world was unaware of. I asked you to post the earliest mention of AIDS, something, anything from the 1970's, you came back with nothing. Because there is nothing. I posted the earliest mentions of the disease in print and on tv, guess what, the 80's.

I was just answering the OP's question honestly, you took this thing to a bizzaro, fictionalized, what if, insult fest. You and I remember the 70's quite differently, all information seems to back up my version, but you are entitled to remember the great "70's AIDS scare" that never ever happened.

Keep in mind, "What were the 70s like?"

Not "what did we find out in the 80's that scared us, and looking back we wish public health officials had been more diligent in getting the word out earlier and more effectively"

Feel free to start that thread, on an entirely different subject. I'll pass.

There was one article that I posted that even referenced another name for it "Kaposi's Karcoma"..I specifically remember it being referenced on the news ... Also GRID (*** Related Immune Deficiency), but even that may have been 80's ish.....

t

Just to clarify, Although Kaposi's sarcoma is found in a majority of HIV positive individuals, it is a herpes virus that travels alone.... apparently, it rarely shows up so aggressively in healthy peoples, but those with HIV and AIDS showed more aggressive outbreaks due to the comprimised immune system.

As for the initial topic, I asked around at work- "give me a one paragraph synopsis of the 70's"

Every last one mentioned hairy beavers.

I know I sound repetitive, but I will repeat

At that time, they didn't know what they were dealing with. They didn't know how to classify it. Therefore they started calling it whatever seemed suitable at the time. They were grasping at straws until the CDC termed it AIDS
I believe that's about the 3rd time I have had to tell you that

You will pass cause you cant find another excuse for your saying there was no aids in the 70's..

"No it wasn't, there is no such thing as the 70's AIDS scare, because there was no such thing as AIDS"

Sound familiar?

I asked you for one quote, document, anything that backed up your assertion that:

I was alive and working in the 1970's. The AIDS scare was real.
Not one thing to back up the "70's AIDS scare", nothing.

There is however proof all over this thread that there was never any "1970's AIDS scare". Of course the disease existed before 1980, not the point. Again read the title of the thread "What were the 70s like?". Nobody knew, not the CDC, not the media, not even you and your "friends". AIDS had nothing to do with any ones sexual behavior in the 70's. You completely made up "the 70's AIDS scare" and now you're scrambling around trying to cover your ass, with bullshit semantics and name calling.

"I knew about it, and so did people I knew"

One question. You and the "people you knew" didn't really know about AIDS being a deadly STD in the 70's did you?

Of course you didn't. If you knew and kept it to yourself you would be a monster.

The 70's AIDS scare! Classic.

Well, at least I got you to finally admit the disease existed after you vehemently denied it did...So I accomplished something

'there is no such thing as the 70's AIDS scare, because there was no such thing as AIDS.'

And where is someone supposed to find newspaper articles written in the 70s about people dying from a mysterious disease that was later named AIDS??. All the articles I can find are written after the fact in retrospect...I told you I remember hearing it on the news...Civilized people watch the news. Im sorry you didnt hear about it...The AIDS virus was real in the 70's and that was proven.I find it hard to believe that people were dying from a new and strange disease, and there was a news blackout about it.. If you cant admit to that..Im sorry for you

As far as name calling..Ill say it again...Youre a fuckin dummy!

True story..

Walter Cronkite worked at CBS in the 70's..He went in to see the News Director one morning to ask permission to do a news story about people dying from a mysterious disease that no one could identify..The News Director listened intently as Cronkite explained the situation to him...Unknowingly to both of them, a young recently hired kid was listening outside the office..Suddenly, the young lad burst into the News Directors office and shouted "Dont Believe Him..There is no such disease in America!" The News Director asked the young lad to explain. The kid replied.." Well, it hasn't been named yet, therefore it doesnt exist. Do the story after 1981 when the CDC names the disease. Then it will exist".

And that's how number51 got fired from his first job!

You have officially flipped your shit. I see I made your sig, high five!

You told a lie a few pages ago.

I was alive and working in the 1970's. The AIDS scare was real.

There was no 70's AIDS scare, you made that up. The rest of your "argument" have devolved into creepy obsessive rambling. It's a shame, "What were the 70s like?" was a pretty cool question, potential for a great thread. Derailed by one liar, and his sad attempts to change the subject.

If you can find one person, one document, one link, one anything to back up your claim that there was a 70's AIDS scare, please post it. Until then it will be your word against the world, reality, and documented history.

Again...DUMMY..There are no links available from the 70s that I can find from any newspaper on just about any subject, much less on a subject that had no name to speak of... You do realize that 1975 was 39 years ago don't you?..All the links I have provided have been done in retrospect, and prove without any doubt AIDS was here..
Do you honestly believe that a subject like people dying from an unknown cause would NOT be reported in the media?

Are you that hard headed to dig your heels in that badly?

I cant believe that you are actually arguing this point.

You finally admit that AIDS was around in the 70's after several posts I have made proving that it was..Now you want to argue that although it was here, no one reported on it?? I can't find a newspaper link from 1975 on the names of homicide victims in Chicago either..Maybe if some famous person was killed yes, but in general?..No..Does that mean it wasn't reported on?...Of course not

Without knowing one thing about you, I'd bet you are a Canadian..You just fit the mold

Read my signature..It says it all!
