This is inspired by remydat's mock offseason thread....what would be your plan for fixing the Bears?

My opinion is based on the thinking that the 2024 are at a Trestman level of dysfunction. There has been no progress from year-to-year, so the whole thing needs to be torn down for the most part. Here is what I would do:

a) Fire entire coaching staff.
b) Fire Ryan Poles, hire new GM
c) Do not re-sign any existing player's contract that is expiring
d) Keep draft capital, look at trading away established defensive players in the LB and DB areas who might bring back draft picks.
e) look at signing the backups of teams like the Niners, Lions, etc., because those guys have looked superior to the current Bears starters and would at least have a little NFL experience.
f) Draft heavy in the OL and DL

"Moar weapons" was the complaint the last few years and it got us 4 wins - yay!

Load up on luxury WRs and TEs, so we can run two TE sets! 🤣

...makes it really easy for rookie QBs!!

My Plan?

* I'd start by doing an honest assessment of our roster. I likely look at Caleb, Rome, Moore, Kmet, and Swift and try to build around that. And to do that, I start looking into NFL-Proven offensive systems that would highlight what they do well. I would also talk to them and see what their favorite types of plays to run are. The input would help me narrow down which offensive systems and variants to use.
*Then I would take those offensive systems, and I would have my people look into who in the pro and college ranks run those systems, and their track records. People who have run those systems well are on my list of potential interviews, with pros being given deference over college.
*I would then round out my potential interview list by looking at NFL Special Teams coordinators - only those in the league right now who consistently have their special teams in the top 10 over a period of 3-5 years would be considered.
* I would then conduct interviews and start with the NFL Special Teams coaches first. Bonus points if when I ask who they can get as their OC, they name one of the candidates that is on my potential interview list, so long as they ace the rest of the interview process.
* IF given the state of the Bears, a big name, program-building HC name emerges, I do consider not only interviewing them, but also if they want HC power, firing Poles and giving it to the big name, but it would HAVE to be someone with a good reputation for building out a football program.
* Once a coach is hired, because we already have offensive systems narrowed down based on our personnel, our scouts would be able to already have a head start on who fits the new coach's system.
* As an organizational philosophy and a minor touch in building a new culture, I would have maintenance paint on a wall somewhere in the office of every single person involved in the football operation - "Schemes do not win championships - Coaching + Talent does." This mantra will serve as a warning to everyone to not fall in love with their own press - just do your jobs and get it right, and the accolades will come on their own.
* At this point, we let the GM and Head Coach do their things, and hope we got it right.

Fire George, and replace him with an AI bot.
Fire Poles, and replace the coaching staff.
Draft the best OL/DL in the first 2 rounds
Get the best OL/DL in free agency
Draft/sign a SS to replace Brisker in case he doesn't come back from injury

Poles in not going anywhere.. Having said that, Poles should hire a 'TOP SHELF' HC who in turn should be able to hire his staff without any hindrance from the ownership and management. Let the new HC and his staff make determination about players on the roster..

This seems like a fruitless exercise since we can't get rid of the owners... I'd fire up as high as I can in the food chain and replace them with the best that money can buy.

Are you so sure poles isn’t going anywhere? I wouldn’t bet my life on that. If poles does happen to stay they better extend him. If they don’t you’re not getting a top HC candidate to walk into this front office mess.

Mark in the callendar. Poles will stay because McCaskey wont eat two contracts, period. Now the easy part, he (Poles) will get extended if new HC candidate ask for it.. Simple.

Just because Tyler Scott has hardly been used, does that really mean he's trash? We don't know.

Become fans of another team because CCS hurt your feelings.
He isn't even a fan of the Lions. He just pretends to be. That's how fucking pathetic he is. :jonesy:

Maybe the new coaching staff will have Jenkins back at RG, where he actually played better.

If the Browns fired Stefanski I'd look at him. He's brought the Browns to the playoffs twice with far inferior QB play. Watson is definitely the problem with that offense. He can bring Schwartz with him for DC.
