What's it going to take for the Cubs to become perennial WS Contenders?

Better defense, better pitching, a true #3 hitter in the lineup. If you look up and down our line-up we have no one who really strikes fear into an opposing pitchers.

If we had better pitching we'd be playing a really good game. Hope for the rest of this game and Games 2-3 for sure.

We need an offense. Our offense is terrible. Pitching has never really been a problem for this team and even this year really isn't.

You don't really need a player who strike fear into other teams to win. You just need good hitters. Unfortunately, we don't really have those.

I also want to laugh at everyone who blames Wrigley. If it wasn't for Wrigley then no one would go to Cubs games and they would have less money then the Marlins.

Well that's just not true and is a flat out ignorant statement. We're in Chicago. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would still go, ya know since it *is* a huge city.

Pitching talent-wise is good enough to contend. However part of pitching is how you manage it and Quade is simply not able to manage it well enough for this team.

The Cubs have a few solid hitters. They don't need someone to "strike fear" into opposing pitchers, but a lineup that could consistently produce would do the trick.

Tom Ricketts and co. really aren't a good ownership though.

theyll be better than the Trib, IMO. i think they( Sam Zell) knew he was gonna sell, so they allowed the payroll to skyrocket. if we won, they price only went up, so he had nothing to lose.

Agreed. I think PIT has a better situation then the Cubs right now

if they were willing to spend money I would agree. Every good player they trade once he is ready to get paid. I saw Andrew M. play every day in the minors at here in Indy the kid is a stud. To bad they will trade him in a few years.

The location is like 95% is why I go to games, which includes atmosphere. Watching the Cubs lose day in and day out is much more bearable when you can walk around the corner and get a 5 dollar slice of pizza bigger than a frisbee and then walk down Sheffield and hit up Sluggers, The Barleycorn, The Cubbie Bear, etc. for a beer with hundreds of other Cubs fans.

This is completely objective, but Sox games aren't as much fun because there's nothing around 35th. There's nothing to do after the game (that I know of - I've only been to like 3 Sox games...)

It's the location and atmosphere of Wrigleyville on game days that keeps me going back.

If they had some decent pitching they'd probably finish better than the Cubs and Astros and give Milwaukee a run for their money.
