I was expelled with a 4.6 GPA(4.0 scale + AP). So I have a GED. There was no incentive for me to finish HS or get a college degree. I made more money and gained far more experience and knowledge by independently researching and applying myself. This is not me advocating the same path to others, everyone has to make their own mind up on what/how. My house is paid off, I have no debt, and I have no real shortage of business. Speaking for myself, I honestly have no regrets.

I quit college, and found a lucrative career in construction sales. However, I spent weekends learning product knowledge and estimating skills from a private school geared towards the industry.

Now I'm a horticulturist.:smug2:

What is more valuable? A Bachelors from an Ivy League school, or a Masters from a Community College?

I think in terms of marketability, it is the former. However, I still believe it is a matter of getting the job done.

Similar. I graduated from high school, a little bit of college. Saw no point in continuing that though. Self taught, lots of experience etc etc. I am now a C level executive in a public company. The subject of my degree or (lack thereof) never comes up anymore at this stage of my career. It used to embarrass me a little, but now I sort of wear it like a badge of honor. House is not paid off though :)

I have an undergrad in Geology and a Masters in Mineral Exploration. I worked in industry for 4 years before getting my masters. I learned FAR more actually learning on the job than getting my masters. In my classes I could tell who had industry experience and who came straight from undergrad. Also, people that we hire that went straight from undergrad to masters tend to have huge egos and this sense of entitlement. They dont listen as well and think they have nothing left to learn. Not all of course, but at least in my industry, most.
Plus, if you can get into industry out of undergrad, you can often get your masters paid for! and get paid as a full time employee as well!

if you go through the bears forum, you would think the average education level is of a 5th grade.

I am not familar with any community colleges that have masters programs, but I admit that I don't know every community college out there either.
