I was expelled with a 4.6 GPA(4.0 scale + AP). So I have a GED. There was no incentive for me to finish HS or get a college degree. I made more money and gained far more experience and knowledge by independently researching and applying myself. This is not me advocating the same path to others, everyone has to make their own mind up on what/how. My house is paid off, I have no debt, and I have no real shortage of business. Speaking for myself, I honestly have no regrets.

I really hate the trend in NC public school that is preparing every kid for college. Most high schools that I know of no longer offer classes for job skills and technical training anymore. It's all about standardized test and getting into a 4 year university. Higher education is not for everyone. I feel like the focus in high school should be on preparing kids to be able to work, take care of themselves, and function in society. That's just me.

College dropout.

Hasn't seemed to make much a difference, as it turns out people generally care way more about work experience and ability than a piece of paper.

Bachelors degree from U of I. Double major in Economics and Sociology (<---to pad my resume).

The crap about going to college leads to higher long term earnings is baloney. Most people who go to college have a better work ethic and dedication than most who don't. With or without higher education they would still have made more money. This thread is proving this true. You just need a good work ethic and smarts. You'll be OK with or without a degree.

Don't tell this to Phoenix University though. They want you to pay $30,000 and lead you to believe you can't get ahead in life without their Micky Mouse Degree.

MS.

Community College and Junior College are used interchangeably where I'm from. They basically offer an AA, certificate 'degree', and/or the ability to transfer to a 4-year school.

Obviously college isn't for everyone, but I think it goes unmentioned a lot that going to college is more than just about a job or career path. It's about the life experience and growing up imo. Some of my best memories are from college.

Plus, you'll never really be at a point in your life where you are an adult and don't have the responsibilities of being a grown-up like when you are in college. I never understood why so many people are in such a hurry to start working, you'll be working your whole life.

Yeah, I'm a big proponent of college...

EDIT: I went to a Junior College and transfered. I slightly regret that.

Piss away money? Maybe time and effort, but to be fair, it doesn't cost much to go to CC. That's the whole point of going there, LOL.

Is this a joke?

Which would open more doors of opportunity...an Ivy League degree, or a Masters from ECC? With so many people getting their Masters from reputable universities and saturating the job market, I can't think of a worse way to piss away money than to get your Masters from a Community College.

I don't think too many people strive to get a masters from a community college. It's more like, *hey, my mother works in the enrollment/x-department, and all we have to do is pay for books.*

I have my Associate's Degree in Crimial Justice.

I want to finish my Bachelor's Degree, but don't want to pay thye cost. College is too much money now and it has gone up. Especially I don't want to finsih my Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice if I can't evenj have a job in that field. Because of my health issue... but still figuring it out now.
