When did Bears fans (some of them) become so anti media?

For years and years and years, journalists have held themselves up as gatekeepers of the truth. It has developed into an arrogance of "how dare you question us - don't you know who WE ARE? We are the truth people - you MUST believe us implicitly!"

I mean, this even goes back to Hub Arkush after the Bears fired him and he hated on them for a decade. Everyone could see there was a personal bias, but he'd get all pissed off and sanctimonious when anyone who called him on the radio questioned him on it.

To put it bluntly, sports media, and all media as a whole, functions on the capital of trust. And there has been WAY too much shit, in sports media and otherwise, where the media has lost and broken that trust, and rather than own it and say "we'll do better", they instead double down with a "how DARE you!" and end up making themselves the enemy of the people they are supposed to be getting that truth for.

And as trust is repeatedly broken, and in the age of when, thanks to the internet and camera phones, every day people can actually fact check these supposed journalists and capture HARD evidence of journalists pursuing agendas instead of truth and make it publicly available, there just is nowhere to hide anymore.

And because the younger generation has lived their whole lives on the internet, they've taken the patterns of when the media HAS lied and there WAS proof, and now see those patterns in places where there is no hard proof, which then flips on their skepticism switch.

Its the media's own agenda-seeking hubris that had caused this backlash, and they (and those that support them) likely are still too arrogant and narcissistic to admit it, which means their agendas remain extremely easy to see straight through...
...okay, let's just step back and remember this is spectator sports media. It's about as important as the celebrity news.

Starting a thread, defending them in subsequent posts? Dude, don't even try to play it off....
I just think it’s funny that there’s a certain segment of the Bears fan base that leaps to defend the Bears over any perceived slight. (Real or imagined). So much so that they have to only listen to “positive” takes on the Bears. I really don’t think it used to be this way.

Anyways, believe what you want.

I mean, honestly I think you are conflating the media with homerism, which you have a real bias against as since I have been back here, you have displayed a persistent pessimism - but all of those are different things.

People independent of the media can be critical of the Bears, optimistic about the Bears, or feel whatever.

Where the media comes in, is they see the trends, and see that they can more easily sell papers, get clicks and get listeners to react by appealing to the cynical, who tend to be more vocal and animated, which in turn gives them easy stories and content. And because the cynical are ironically more easily led by the nose, all those media members have to do is keep peddling cynicism, and every so often exacerbate that segment of the fandom.

However, part of what you are seeing, is that this has been going on so long that there is a backlash. And that is some of what you are noticing. But that backlash isn't 100% homerism, and that is where you are getting messed up on this.

I’ve seen dozens of posts like this lately. Younger (mostly) Bears fans that just hate the media. I feel like this is a new thing. Maybe it’s not. Thoughts?
You never see this kind of stuff from real sports media and i legitimately feel embarrassed for this guy. Looks like such a child. He's just another fan with a following, nothing more.

A lot of people confuse local and national sports media. National sports media like ESPN and FOX thrive on hot takes and dumb debates because it has a broad audience with various rooting interests. Locally that isn't the case. As much as the homer crybabies complain about it, no one here wants the Bears to lose outside of ones who cheer for a different team. There is a reason why the IGTs die more and more when the team keeps losing. I've heard guys on the radio flat out say that these teams winning is better for business. You think they make up bs to piss people off and give them a reason to not listen? Jesus, most of these people grew up in Chicago and are fans. They just decided to not let emotion dictate their opinions and act like professionals.

I honestly think people upset with our beat guy are just really dumb homer fans. @Melty Joe is a prime example. But hey, maybe the guy who thinks the election was stolen is really on to something...

The problem is we have networks that say they are news yet don't have any actual journalists or news type people around anymore. They have talking heads whose only task is to say the craziest thing possible to draw people in. Same goes for sports talking heads. These people pull predictions out their rear end are very rarely ever correct but we listen to this garbage week in and week out. When Propaganda took over the news networks and more of a selling point then actual real news this country was headed.

It also doesn't help the general population gets to chime in with their opinions and of course, whatever they say is factual .
