No political discussion please, I was already tempted to do so.

That morning I was in a training session near O'Hare, was scheduled to fly back to Florida the next day.

I stayed with family for 2 days here, then flew back to Ft. Myers.

Well screw it, so much for the non-political effort...just bring home the troops. Let the Middle East go back to throwing stones at each other.

I was in high school in my first period class, reading the paper. The news of the day was that MJ was making another comeback, that was on the cover of the Washington Post. But it got pushed back because of the incident.

I had my first day off in 3 weeks, so I was at home when it happened. A friend of mine in MY IMed me and said, OMG, a plane crashed into the city! So I turned on the news, and 3 minutes later the news teams finally caught up to the story. I watched the whole thing. I went to donate blood that day, and I signed up with an Army recruiter the day after.

I was at work. My boss was in the midst of moving so he had a T.V. and a couch at our shop. In between deliveries we would sit in front of the T.V. and watch what was happening. Everyone from the front office kept coming out for updates.

Freshman year of HS, between 1st and 2nd period. My twin grabbed me during the passing period and told me a plane had hit the Towers, another plane had hit the Pentagon, and the White House was on fire.

The latter part, of course, proved to be false. But my one other memory of that day was having my high school football practice canceled. To my knowledge, that is the only time our coach EVER canceled a practice.

Science class, 7th grade. The science classroom was isolated from all the other classrooms, so we had no idea until the class period was over. Made it to my locker and finally found out. Watched it on TV the rest of the school day.

I was sitting in my 2nd period study hall, waiting for class to start (sophomore year HS). My study hall teacher Mr Dergo (who was an old gym teacher and kind of a wild dude) walks in and goes "well, we're going to war." Everyone kind of looked at eachother bewildered and then he went on to tell us that we were under attack in New York City. Eventually they brought a TV into the room and we watched the news to see what was actually going on.

I swear, I remember that day more vividly than I do things like the births of my children. It's still so clear in my mind, the surreal feeling and events that transpired.

I was in my sophomore year of college. I woke up to go to the shower and a friend of mine said we were under attack. Later that day, one of my best friends while at college told me he was signing up, and dropped out of school later that week.

I found out he died in Afghanistan in 2006.

What I recall the most was how people's attitudes changed. For a while, people were actually kind to one another. Unfortunately it only lasted about a month, how quickly we forget what is really important. I almost forgot, about 4PM that day 2 F-15's flew over with no regard for the sound barrier. And of course, everyone thought the sonic boom was a bomb and poured out into the streets. And traffic was a mess b/c they evacuated the Sears tower along with most of downtown.

I was in 8th grade.

The attacks started while I was still at home before school. Having been in the World Trade Centers in 5th grade and it being one of my favorite places I went in New York, I immediately started paying attention to the news. I actually saw the 2nd plane hit, though the angle the camera was at it at first looked like a "help" plane was on the way. Of course that was not the case. My mom began freaking out. She took me to school where absolutely everyone was talking about except for a few people who didn't see anything before coming to school or were already at school.

My school decided to cut us out of the loop though. 1st period, they went around telling all the teachers not to talk about it, show any news broadcasts on the TV's or anything. So the entire day I was left in the dark. The guy who had a locker next to me had a radio in there and would listen during passing periods. Before going home that day I knew one tower had at least partially collapsed (had no idea it would fully collapse), the Pentagon was hit, and they thought the White House was targeted. Beyond that I had no idea what the hell else was going on and it bothered the hell out of me. I also knew my dad was on business in San Antonio, which he would be stuck there until September 25th.

Getting home, my mother brought me up to date on everything and then I spent time watching what seemed like a Hollywood movie on TV. Spent some time hanging out with friends acting fairly much like we normally did. We played video games, played football outside, not much had changed for us at the moment. But, we hadn't really realized what was going to change after that moment. I do remember going to bed pissed off that night, and suddenly realized what my grandpa felt after Pearl Harbor was bombed in 1941. (He was 17 at the time, soon to turn 18). As a 13 year old though, didn't feel like much I could do.

7th grade Religion class, working on a project. Spent the rest of the day watching on TV in every class and mostly in silence. Everyone was so shocked and at a loss for words. Only day I ever remember not wanting to go to baseball practice, which was cancelled as well.

I was at home getting ready for work...I had the radio on and was listening to the Mancow show when I heard them all yelling and screaming about how a plane crashed into the World Trade Center.

I thought it was bullshit because this was Mancow and I thought it was one of his stupid stunts.

So I turned on the TV and saw the footage. I'll never forget how terrible I felt.
