Like him or hate him, I was thankful when President Bush threw out that first pitch in Yankee Stadium. It somehow united our resolve as a nation. I miss those times of unity.
I think a month or so after 9/11 a plane headed to O'Hare had a disturbance on board and they scrambled two fighters. I was at home alone at the time, and heard the sonic boom. I thought it was the noise of a building in Chicago being hit. I immediately turned on the TV and waited about a half hour for some sort of breaking news.. never came.. that night though they then reported what the deal was.I knew I was older than many of you but wow. My wife had the day off and we had cnn on as we talked about what we were going to do with our day. Watched the news and only left the house to get the kids from school. 2 nights later we were sitting on the deck when 2 fighters flew over at high speed with afterburners on. About 15 min later they came back over going the other way at a slower speed.
For those of you who were in High School or lower, did the entire faculty keep quiet about it the entire day?
So far, I have found my school district was the only school in the entire country to make this decision.
As did my sister, who was in high school then (different school district). The catholic school that is less than a block from the street I grew up from, they watched it all live too.We watched the towers come down live.

I was just waking up when the first plane hit the first Tower. I woke up super fast with the radio report and flipped the television on. I made a call to a job interview I was having the next day down town to say I was not coming down unless they called me later that day.

Same as first timer. We watched the coverage the rest of the dayFor those of you who were in High School or lower, did the entire faculty keep quiet about it the entire day?

Well I said high school or lower, meaning Middle School (Junior High) and even elementary school.Junior High.... but yeah the faculty didn't really talk about it.
Wasn't mentioned to us, but we were elementary school kids...unless we had a relative in NY at the time I don't think there was really a reason to talk about it since we were generally clueless. For those of you who were in High School or lower, did the entire faculty keep quiet about it the entire day?

Thought you guys had acknowledgement of it at least though.. a moment of silence?Wasn't mentioned to us, but we were elementary school kids...unless we had a relative in NY at the time I don't think there was really a reason to talk about it since we were generally clueless.
No gag order though.
Beyond the moment of silence nothing else was mentioned. Though that was implied, but rereading, clearly it is not. Mah bad yoThought you guys had acknowledgement of it at least though.. a moment of silence?
Nothing was said to us the entire day by anyone except one teacher who didn't receive the gag order notification 1st hour and told us a bit of it 2nd hour, but after that not a peep.
And the administrators said it was just in case any student had a family member in the WTC that day.
