We'd better hope that White, as the #7 overall pick, is an instant starter over a 7th round guy who's done nothing, or it was a wasted pick.
So if White starts his career off a bit slower than we hoped, he's an automatic wasted pick? Come on now. Some players just takes a bit of time getting adjusted to the pros. I don't think White is one of them, but we just don't know.
If we were to select one of these two options:
A) Wilson beats out White for the starting gig in training camp, and White only catches for about 400-500 yards as a rookie. But thereafter he explodes and catches for 1,200+ nearly every year.
B) White starts day 1, and catches for 800-900 yards in his rookie year. He just never catches for more than that in the rest of his career.
I'd pick A. It'd be nice if White was a baller right away, but we're not contenders by any means, so it's not like this is a boom/bust-year for White.
